Britney current Fandom - Is young generation listening to her or have forgotten about her?

I'm 20 and I'm from Hungary. Here my generation loves her big hits, Toxic, BOMT, Oops, Gimme More, Womanizer, Work B and the FF one's because that was her last radio popular era. And I think they gained respect for her, after the documentary (I don't think that much of them has actually seen it as it didn't come out officially on any streaming service here sadly, but they heard about it through the media), but I think before 2020 she wasn't really cared for by them, especially not her private life or mental health (some might thought she's "crazy").

But her hits were & are loved. They would absolutely stan her, if they had seen her performances, her dancing, her old mvs, interviews. I fell in love with her in 2017 entirely and there is no turning back ever since. I promote her, I market her music, I inform my friends about her conversatorship battle, so yeah

Been doing this since 1999, haha!

I think you are making the point, but why isn't she respected is something that boggles me always? I always feel that her team didn't put much effort for making her image like an legend type of artist. She has highly influenced pop back in those days she was a sheer treat to watch still is, but I do feel like as #freebritney movement have gained a lot of momentum she might be free and give an album which'll be a smash hit because I do feel she will continue working.

I also feel that if 2007 she didn't survive, she would've always cemented as a legend but as she did survive people question her, I mean of course young people aren't listening to madonna or mj also but they are still legends.

One more point I feel, she never got to reinvent herself like Beyonce etc - glory in my opinion couldve been that but era got slept upon.

They did, the MTV Vanguard Awards, the GLAAd, the Billboard performance, and others that I forgot now...  they started marketing her as a legend that got nothing to prove some years ago, but also the main market was about her being a mom, they advertised it so much... in interviews, magazines, so that made a disconnection about who she is to what she sings about, there's this disconnection about who Britney is as a person, a mom, in their late 30's and her music, so it feels a little bit unauthentic to people, her music is not her lifestyle so it makes her more like a brand and a celebrity and not really a genuine artist, and today's in all about coherence, authenticity, they didn't get to made a transition with her... and maybe they are right to continue with that... but not right now I guess? I mean, that can't keep going, her artist and music should be more real with her life... IDK, bc also Britney is so young at heart too, and if you're not really a nerd about music this can totally pass by the GP... so yeah I agree with you, she didn't have space to have a transition like Beyonce but I don't think that was a issue some years ago, maybe that transition is about to happen now, who knows. And about Beyonce... there's not so much pressure on her, she's chilling and also got lucky with jumping on the bandwagon of politics and awareness of people, that's why her transition was good... and she can chill, Jay-Z is an awesome business man, its a totally different situation than Britney's.

I think a lot of people have started to like her or love her because of the documentary. She's the last superstar in my opinion, her charisma was really something back then. IIguess everyone feels that when their favourite artist are now old and not ruling the charts anymore. Britney mania was real back then, I still haven't seen it with any-other now.

Well, glory got slept upon so it makes sense. I think time has really passed now, I feel nostalgic she was the only one back then.

Well, I would consider  Glory as a popularity reference since its promotion was next to nothing. She waa here and there but promoting the Vegas show, not Glory. Plus, por single choices and bad timing, etc.

Sometimes I do think that, like when she came out her music appeals to everyone (I know particularly kids and teens) like she never really try to pander to like specific race groups or the gay audience, her music was meant to be liked by everyone so it bothers me that she still can’t be appealing to the younger generation still as I feel she does have it still.

That’s why it’s so frustrating with her team as I feel she just has that knack, she observes and absorbs what’s surrounding her and spits out pop perfection. Glad over time she’s gaining more respect that she well deserves. I hate it when I hear “ oh she’s too old” or “wasn’t she famous like back in the day?” because as I got older I too understand what older people were saying that just because we’re old doesn’t mean we aren’t useless. Cuz I do feel like people perceive her as that sometimes like she’s damaged goods, no need to bother about her.

Honestly no, I dont think the new generation is listening to her.

They know of her though.

Like for example: my 16 and 15 yr old cousins know who she is and BOMT

but they dont listen to her.

And Idk if my sis counts on this since shes 22 but she even knows about Glory (her fave song was Slumber Party)

I blame Britney's team, label and conservatorship cause they are ruining her legacy and making her a thing of a past

instead of still being relevant.

I still think she can make hits but its the people around her that dont seem to think so.

Hmmm, as I think of Madonna young people do not listen to her also. But with Britney I feel it's a different case as she's fairly young her last hit was 2013 with work B. Her team is big time to blame than the team, they really didn't put any effort for her to get into the positive light. Media obsession was real back then with her, with such great pop music it breaks my heart that people are thinking of her as a crazy person. But, somehow I do think even Britney doesn't want to be in the limelight anymore she served 2000s really well. But after this c-ship I do feel she will come back with her truth, new music and tours. And I think this time with whole world watching, her music will blow up.

Hmmm, rightly made point. I feel definitely her era has passed now, makes me feel very nostalgic compared to new pop stars in the game it's really weird to see how high standards Britney set hardly anything amazes me anymore in terms of new gen pop stars performances. But, I think this time things will change for Britney as #freebritney movement has sparked - she's gaining sympathy and support. I do think after she's free, she'll come out with her side of the story, new music and tours. I mean her FF album - worst era sold better and Glory didn't just because of no promotion. Glory era really got slept upon, I really don't think she will not make new music anymore but this time she'll make it on her own terms I guess.

I believe she will, I feel like she makes music so she can dance and it does bring her joy.
