Can we acknowledge the elephant in the room as to why Britney's sales are less consistent though? Mostly because her transitions between Oops!... - In the Zone are a lot less smooth in terms of being able to retain the younger fans/her original fanbase. Taylor released like 3 albums post-debut all slowly leading up to her pop transition but Britney didn't really do that. :jl_jamie_lynn_awkward_cringe_eek:

Britney (2001) was a transitional album but it wasn't originally intended to be that way, it's just how many of the tracks got scrapped to fuse the albums with the original Crossroads soundtrack. Hence why the more adult sounding songs lean VERY more into the adult sides from what you would expect from a transitional album. It was lowkey a smart decision from JIVE to make it a transitional album so that it wouldn't alienate all of her audience but it sure did alienate a lot of her younger fans, particularly the ones who still weren't teens because their parents would refuse to buy her stuff.  :jl_jamie_lynn_awkward_cringe_eek:

Like an example is how there are still LOADS of fans of Taylor who have been fans since she was doing country, but it's quite rare to find someone whose been a fan of Britney since 1998. There are def a few but most of the older fans became fans when Britney started doing more adult stuff.

Britney's image changed much more than Taylor's has ever, although Taylor has probs (in her released material) been more experimental with genres. :nicki2_minaj_awkward_nicki_ooh_welp_well_look_blonde_hat:

Had Britney waited until she was 21 for her first adult project it would have been fine.

But she released Britney at 19, I was 17. But most of her original fan base was basically under the age if 10. So it did backfire.

Even Billboard noted that I'm a slave 4 u was very controversial at the time of it's release as most of her original fan base didn't turn 10 or discover hormones and puberty yet, now it's praised but in 2001 it was a very different time to be a Britney fan. She was growing up, but her fan base wasn't there at the time the Music was becoming more adult.

Damn at all the haters in this thread. You mad?

They don't like Taylor swift. But she's the biggest Artist from the US, also holds the highest grossing north American tour of all time

Let them hate, she's going to #1 and gonna stay there, I'm looking at the Music releases and no big artists are planning anything until they can tour at least we stay fed unlike other stan bases.

Yassss. The energy it takes to be negative-sad. Promote what you love instead of bashing what you hate.

Why would ppl even want to buy it, i simply dont get it.

It is covers from the same artist as the original and there is no fresh creativity added, it's literally her making them all identical to the originals. Why would anybody be interested in purchasing something that has been here for like 10 years or whatever?

I might be wrong, but I don't think most fans buy CDs to listen to them when streaming exists. They're just cool collector's items to have. In K-Pop, for example, most albums come in multiple verions that have the same tracklists, yet many people buy all versions.

Furthermore, in this case fans want to support Taylor as an F you to Scooter.

Plus target has an exclusive version, but I'm wondering if they sell now, even with the exclusive bonus tracks, or extras like DVDs and stuff, someone will always RIP it to the net, removing the whole exclusive thing completely.

boring cookie-cutter generic music, no flavor

if that's what people like then good

but stop acting like she's michael jackson or something

She literally broke his Billboard 200 record, she's about to become the artist with the most weeks at #1 on the US Billboard top 200.

She's literally as Barbara Walter's put it in 2014, the Music industry.

7 years later, many of her contemporaries have flopped, or literally is known for scandals and **** addictions or dead in some cases, but Taylor is still selling album's and getting money. When others can't cos they don't write songs and have to rely on touring or endorsements.

that's because her music is generic, it appeals to literally everyone, she's not doing anything that we haven't heard or seen before, she's just a radio filler, music that plays on the radio as background noise , nothing interesting

Sis that was over 2 decades ago.  Taylor had much more success with her albums, selling millions of each on the first week alone.  Taylor's album sales are much more impressive and consistent, and this is coming from someone who can't stand the *****:riha_rihanna_cackle_laughing_lol_haha_hehe_lmao_hand:

I think you can stand plenty of Taylor and you probably have Taylor’s Version playing right now :snooptoya_jackson_snooping_looking_magnifying_glass_glasses_search:

So you’re saying she makes popular mainstream music .. that appeals to everyone. The horror!

Heaven forbid a pop star releases music people like ...

LOL she’s one of the few who writes her own music almost completely on her own. She’s a brilliant lyricist and musician. She has succeeded in so many different genres and music styles. If her music was generic she wouldn’t break every record there is to break, even those of the GOAT. Don’t you have anything better to put your energy into? :nynod_miss_new_york_ms_nodding_yes_yas_agree:

Fearless, Speak Now and Red may be boring to some but those albums are in a genre of their own. Taylor made 3 masterpieces back to back that nobody else can emulate.

Billboard explains it all in this video, her original catalog is worth 300 Million, but Now thx to fearless taylors version (Big Machine deleted the physical edition of the platinum edition) meaning they now know it's no longer valued, thx to Taylor releasing six new song's from this era as well, she really killed the original fearless.

And the original according to third place Amazon sellers is being roughly sold between 250 dollars the cheapest to about 2.5 k as the most expensive.

So that's let's me know each time Taylor puts her own version out of an older album, that has bonus content not available on the original releases, Big Machine will discontinue the original product and make it rare and hard to find.

@Arianna

@Jordan Miller

@InTheZone4Life

No word if Big machine plans to remove their versions from digital platforms but as Billboard pointed out their version is not that much of a money maker as Taylor makes more now from her own versions, basically decreasing the value of the original catalog.
