Serbia is a country in South-Eastern Europe, and although we have an openly lesbian Prime Minister, we still didn't legalize same *** partnerships. Well, this is about to change in 3 months as Serbia has declared it wil llegalize the unions this summer. This law won't have a referendum because according to Serbian constitution, the rights of minorities cannot be decided by a majority (which makes referendum in this case illegal). :yay_britney_excited_ftr_for_the_record_2008_cheering_clapping: Let's all join hands and congratulate Serbia for taking a huge step ahead, especially in times when countries such as Hungary and Poland are looking to revert their gay laws :crying1_britney_sobbing_tears_2006_sad:

Many countries in Europe still don't offer protection to their gay citizens and a civil union is still just a dream, hopefully, super conservative countries surrounding Serbia will now be inclined to do the same. In this part of Europe, only Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia and Montenegro have recognized civil union or gay marriage. Many countries still refuse doing it.

Additionally, Serbia is already drafting a low to allow adoption for gay couples which should be legalized in two years max :yay_britney_excited_ftr_for_the_record_2008_cheering_clapping:

A part of Serbian population is naturally very pissed off because they are homophobic swines, but our Minister of Human and Minorities Rights sent them a wonderful message: "To all those who oppose the law, I can only say -- if you don't like same-*** partnerships, don't live in one," Minister of Human and Minority Rights Gordana Comic, who has championed the law, told AFP.:riri_rihanna_take_bow_wink_flirt_hand_white:

I envy Serbian people so much :crying1_britney_sobbing_tears_2006_sad: I can't even imagine this happening in Poland with our hopelessly conservative and homophobic government where ministers and the president openly insult LGBT people in national television :sad_britney_ftr_for_the_record:

in the middle east gay people are still getting thrown off of rooftops and executed. Why does nobody care about that? Why are people focusing on something as dumb as marriage when there ae literally gays being ********?

But I guess its like people ignoring the chinese muslim death camps but whining about racism in the US.

I'm sorry am I not supposed to celebrate the victory in my own country though? LGBT in Serbia has been oppressed in all kinds of ways for centuries. Especially because this part of Europe suffers from a very toxic macho culture. We fought viciously, and we fought hard, and we damn well deserve to celebrate this historical moment of our lives AND share our happiness with the rest of the world.

As far as gay muslims in conservative Arab countries go, they are not and they won't be forgotten. Our fight doesn't stop here, and the LGBT community continues to fight for the rights of all the gay people. However, Arab countries are economically strong and they can't quite be dictated on human rights, so gays in these countries need to fight as well, not just wait for us to do it for them.

I get it that it's hard, but only 10-15 years ago, you could literally get ******** in Serbia for holding your boyfriends hand in public and noone would beat an eye. But we organized parades, we demanded rights, they threw rocks at us, tried to beat us, and we didnt give up.

Today, I'm seeing plenty of couples holding hands and kissing in our capital city, and my heart is full. Fighting for your rights is a vicious battle that deserves celebration.

Im so sorry to hear this tbh, idk why EU isn't stepping up and stopping this insanity, I see what's been going on in Poland and Hungary, they are openly reverting LGBT rights and it is disgusting. EU has to stop this ASAP./

THANK YOU SO MUCH BOO :hugs_madonna_britney_ftr_2008_circus_hugging_friends_support: which country are you from if I may ask? :ponderney_britney_thinking_sunglasses_hmm_wondering_deciding_orange_blue:

I'm from Greece. Here our community can get a cohabitating agreement which is legally equal to hetero***ual marriage for 5 or 6 years now. There have been also discussions about adoptions but it's a little more complicated issue due to religious and conservative oppositions in the public.

Aww I'm happy for you, congrats! :awyeah_britney_yes_yas: I'm from Hungary and things are drastically getting really absurdly sh-ty here. Huge stepbacks here (now not only same-s adoptions are banned, but even adoption as a single parent...you have to get a permit from a homophobic minister to be able to do it)

I'm a little suprised about this news, but all for it! More suprises like this, please:imcute_britney_ftr_for_the_record_hat_paris_french_smile_grin_happy:
