Guest
The song was inspired by pop stars at the time like Britney Spears whose real lives were different to the perfect images presented. Do you have any sympathy now for the misogynistic way she was treated? “I do. I remember watching her and having mixed feelings, but especially as I started going through some of it, I was feeling for her. I can’t imagine how hard it would be like to live like that, with the constant paparazzi and harsh words. I recently watched Framing Britney Spears and what she went through was wrong. I don’t envy that kind of pop star attention at all.” https://www.nme.com/features/music-interviews/amy-lee-evanescence-the-bitter-truth-2902372 She also defended Britney in 2007 on the band's site when a fan tried to make fun of Britney shaving her head using one of their songs Evanescence singer Amy Lee came to the defense of Britney Spears after a fan named "Strat" posted a YouTube video making fun of the troubled pop star using one of Evanescence's songs. "OK, hold on a second. I have to post that I in NO WAY am going to endorse any kind of Britney bashing after everything she's been through," Lee wrote at the Evanescence forum. "I can't control what people put on YouTube or anywhere else on the internet, but I would NEVER want my picture or our music connected to something that's based on getting enjoyment out of someone's pain. I know what it's like to feel manipulated, used and helpless - so do most of you, that's why you're here and by now I know what it's like to feel like your entire life is open to the world for judgement. I don't read tabloids and I don't care about celebrity, but it is impossible to escape the whole world just loving to watch her suffer. Remember that this is a human being we're talking about and who wants to be like those horrible people that have hurt you to feel better about themselves? 'Everybody's Fool' is about the fact that the whole celebrity thing is fake and empty. I think Britney Spears is more aware of that now than anyone. I'm not trying to burn you at the stake, Strat, but it would mean alot to me if you'd take your clip down. Love, Amy. P.S.: Tabloids are dumb. Don't buy them." Quote The band's new video for Everybody's Fool, in which Lee dresses in Britney-esque school-girl and dominatrix outfits, shows the singer's distaste for the images used to promote most female pop stars. She wrote the song five years ago for her younger sister. "At this point, everybody knows that Britney is fake," Lee says. "The song is not about Britney Spears; it's about a lot of people in this industry. It's so fake, the whole Hollywood thing. 'Look at how perfect I am!' Nobody looks like that. It's all fake and it's really hurting a lot of girls' and women's self images. Where are all the normal people?" Link to comment
Almost Mystical
I remember her in TRL where they want her to bash Britney's VMA performance. I can see that she's very uncomfortable in that position and even defend Britney, "she's not that fat!" But I guess everyone in the industry would know how depressing Britney story is. Being put in conservatorship and legally bound to be extorted out of your money and freedom is something that could happen to anyone, from Mariah to Beyonce. That is why every time they were asked about Britney, all they say is that they need to surround themselves with somebody they can trust. Then again, is it wrong for Britney to trust Kevin or her family at that time? In the end they just stabbed her in the back over and over again.. Link to comment

darkchildremix
Amy Lee described how would she beat Britney Spears up if she ever met her in a dark alley. Asked if she ever met Britney in a dark alley, how would she beat her up, Leeresponded, "First I would take my corset off and strangle her around her big gymnast neck, then I would poison her the way Snow White was poisoned in the fairy tales, and then afterwards I would dye her hair back to the original color." Asked what color would that be, Lee responded, "Puke green." Link to comment
darkchildremix
It's always so convenient to use britney for promotion when you have a new album coming out. Link to comment

That was harsh.. but there could be a lot of bait from media that wanted her to talk trash at the time tho.. but yea that is definitely bad. Link to comment

Stefani
It kind of annoys me that the narrative has changed from wanting to free Britney from the conservatorship, to simply dragging the paparazzi and media who used to stalk her. While the latter was obviously traumatic too, I think some people didn't grasp the main intention of the documentary. Link to comment

FemmeFataleBrit
Discussing the paparazzi and media harassment isn’t gonna change the past, but talking about the conservatorship today can change Britney’s future. Link to comment

That's ******* disgusting, this ****ed comment was made in 2004 tho, so at least in 2007 she didn't mock or drag Britney like most celebs did. Link to comment
