The thing is, IN THEORY, a person that actually requires a conservatorship, name an old person with Alzheimer, is not supposed to live that much longer, nor is supposed to get any better, since it's a chronic disease that just gets worse and worse over time. If the person in fact is so mentally incapable as to require a conservatorship, they will never have a lucid moment where they'll say, I want this to end.

I think that's why the law is so loose in terms of how one can finish a conservatorship, because in theory, such scenario would never come.

 

What they should change is the age minimum to be placed under one. It's outrageous that Britney at 26 was deemed more qualified for a conservatorship than old people with actual dementia who's conservatorships are often denied. 

But as you say, every conservatorship should have annual or bi-annual evaluations with third party experts, that are not related to the conservators or the court, to check if they're actually doing their job. 

And also very important, there should be a higher organism making sure the judges follow the procedures, unlike Reva Goetz who allowed all those irregularities, like not informing Britney beforehand, denying her an attorney, denying her the right to pick a conservator she liked, etc. 

No conservatorship should be granted in a matter of days.

Because they're looking for issues they can actually support. A $15 minimum wage, Stimulus checks, and all that stuff is off the table for them. They've been focusing on cultural issues like "cancel culture (dr seuss potato head)" and jumping back on the deficit spending wagon despite the last 4 years. 

Conservatorship abuse is something that is fairly neutral and fits in their small government philosophy. It's in the news and it's trendy.
