the makers of Framing Britney Spears have hinted at a follow-up, which would utilise unused footage and new information released since the making of the original doc. “There was so much we had to leave on the cutting room floor and in our notebooks just for time,” says writer Liz Day in a recent interview with the Hollywood Reporter, adding that she and director Samantha Stark would “love to” produce a follow-up.

“Also since the documentary aired, we’ve gotten a lot of information that we’re interested in as well,” Day adds, “that we’re interested in pursuing and reporting out further.”

Partly, that would mean digging deeper into Spears’ conservatorship case, something that isn’t given a lot of screen time in Framing Britney Spears. In the last year, Spears’ lawyers have filed a document stating that she’s “strongly opposed” to having her father, Jamie, act as sole conservator. This month, a judge upheld the decision to divide the role between Jamie Spears and a financial company.

“I think there’s way more to learn about the circumstances of the conservatorship, and how the conservatorship has been running and why,” adds Stark, saying that a new film might explore: “the people involved in its creation and running it.”

“Right now, Jamie Spears is the face of this because he’s the person that was named in the court filings that were filed by Britney’s court-appointed attorney. But it’s clear that he’s not the only person who was working on this and that he’s not the only person that has benefited monetarily from this, so I think it’s important to look into everything.”

“And of course it will be very important to keep following the court hearings as they keep happening.”
