I interpret it as a way to damage her image. It's the conservatorship of a mother and he reps the father of her children.

If he pictures it as beneficial for the children, fro Kevin's perspective, then people won't be so harsh on Jaimie and kinda condemn Britney again.

Summed up: he tries to keep the cship on, in order to keep Kevin's laverage on Britney.
