I saw this a while back on twitter when all the mess about LFB was going down. One of these big accounts trademarked FreeBritney but I can't remember wich one. And btw we can still use the hashtag, we just can't use it for profit

You are mistaken.

Bryan Kuchar, (who in 2019, Lou M Taylor "allegedly" attempted to sue, and silence), submitted an application to trademark "Free Britney" in September 2020.

You can trademark a hashtag???

So Team Con can't shut down any Free Britney content anymore? I really have no clue about the legal things around trademarks and such 😅🥸

According to the Trademark Manual of Examining Procedure, you can only trademark a hashtag if it is used to promote or sell a product or service i.e Nike's slogan "Just Do It" is still considered a trademark when it is hashtagged (#JustDoIt).

Therefore, you may still use #FREEBRITNEY on social media etc. But, it appears you cannot use its likeness on "unauthorised" mechanise (unless permitted by Kuchar...if his trademark application goes through).

It is worth mentioning that Bryan's trademark application is intended to cover "Pictures; Posters; Sticker; Coats; Footwear; Headwear; Sweatshirts; Undergarments; Bottoms as clothing; Hoodies; Tops as clothing.

Ticks all the merchandise boxes really!

Also, the application is still ongoing; it has yet to be assigned to an examining attorney for official trademarking. Following it being assigned an examiner, there is a "pending" period, which provides an opportunity for the public to OPPOSE its registration. :nervousney_thinking_britney_looking_up_hands_face_clasp_ftr_for_the_record:

Right now, a number of persons and/or entities are already making a profit of #FREEBRITNEY :umomg_britney_shocked_wow_omg_surprised_eyes_wide:
