This Day in R&B: Mary J. Blige's 'The Breakthrough' album turns 15! (December 20)

Mary J. Blige loves Britney and has spoken greatly of her so we shall not be ignoring the 15th anniversary of this great era in which Mary was in a happy place that is The Breakthrough (even though I was too young xD)!

It debuted at #1 selling 727,000 records the first week (a then record for a female R&B artist in Billboard/Soundscan history).

The 2nd single "Be Without You" (peaked at #3) broke all types of airplay records and is Billboard's most successful R&B/hip-hop song of all-time!

The other singles deserved better on the Hot 100:

This era gave her so many awards, BET, Grammys, AMAs, winning 9 Billboard Awards in one night, etc!

Idk why but this album and “Be Without You” reminds me a lot of the Emancipation of Mimi and We Belong Together. They were both strong comebacks from two RnB legends. Brb, i need to dust it off and give it a spin.
