On December 11, 1999, UK's Record of the Year took place. Sponsored by Britannia Music, it used to be an award voted by the United Kingdom public, that existed from 1998 until 2012. Divided in two television shows, 10 finalists would perform a song during the first segment, and in the second live segment they would announce the winner, which would be the artist with the most phone calls in favor.

Britney Spears performed ...Baby One More Time, but she ended up in third place. The winners of the night were Westlife, performing Flying Without Wings, and in second place, Ronan Keating, who performed When You Say Nothing At All, a Keith Whitley cover.

The other performers were S Club 7, Eiffel 65, Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Lou Bega, Martine McCutcheon and Shania Twain.
