On December 05, 2000, the Billboard Music Awards took place in Las Vegas. Britney was there wearing an iconic orange and purple outfit which consisted of coat, bra, tights, boots, choker and of course a fedora.

She won the Album Artist of the Year award

 

In 2011, in an interview for Harper's Bazaar, Britney remembered this moment as her biggest fashion mistake:

LB: What was your biggest fashion mistake?

BS: Ten years ago at the Billboard awards, I wore this orange hat and orange bra and orange booty pants and purple fishnets. Oh, and I had an orange jacket on.

LB: Was it Halloween?

BS [laughs]: No, it wasn't Halloween. I actually thought I looked hot at the time. But, um, I definitely stood out. I thought it was just a marvelous idea to wear this purple and orange outfit; it was like high school colors. I was a cheerleader for a school I didn't know. People were talking about it, but not in a good way.

I remember a few years later Britney commented saying that she got so much hate for her outfit but she purposely wore that to show she doesn't give AF. I can't remember what interview that was in tho. So if someone finds it, post it! 

She was killing it that night. She deserves more adoration than she gets. I feel like GP show love for her personality and empathize now with her circumstances but people kinda pay her dust on her record breaking, award achieving career!

I always loved Britney’s outfit that night. It was so fun, abstract and everything I love about the early 2000s. IDC what anyone says.
Besides Britney, everyone else looked basic af and/or like a hot mess, especially Mandy and Jessica. Like what in the JcPenny retail **** was going on?

It would have looked nice if it was formed into a Versace dress. But I guess Britney wanted to dress in a suit.

Ddd is that meant to be Pink?

Britney’s outfit was iconic. It’s a shame she regrets it although looking back it was very of its time. I don’t think anyone would wear that to an award show nowdays.
