Oxford vaccine is up to 90% effective in preventing coronavirus tests show

The Oxford vaccine is up to 90% effective in preventing COVID-19, according to tests on thousands of volunteers.

The result compares with the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, which were recently shown to be 95% and 94.5% effective respectively.

The vaccine, codenamed AZD1222, was developed at Oxford University with support from the pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca.

"We have a vaccine for the world," Professor Andrew Pollard, chief investigator of the Oxford Vaccine Trial at Oxford, said.

He added: "It's a really exciting day."

For one course of dosing - where people were given a half dose of AZD1222, followed by a full measure at least a month after - there was an efficacy rate of 90%.

When two full doses were given at least a month apart, the Oxford inoculation had an efficacy of 62%.

A total of 2,741 people were on the course that proved 90% effective, while 8,895 were given two full doses.

When all the results are tabulated, the average efficacy of the vaccine works out to 70%.

Professor Pollard went on: "We think that by giving smaller first dose we are setting up the immune response better to respond. We will dig in more to that. We have started work this morning."

He added: "It's critical to understand what everyone is measuring. What counts as COVID disease varies between different protocols.

"If you are only counting hospitalisations then we would have bigger efficacy. We count mild disease and that is much harder to protect against."

The results will be submitted to a scientific journal for peer review within 24 hours.

Speaking to Kay Burley this morning, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said: "This is really encouraging news of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine that obviously we've been backing since the start.

"I'm really very pleased, I really welcome these figures."

Mr Hancock added that he was expecting the information to be sent to the regulator to make sure it is safe.

He added: "We've got 100 million doses on order and should all that go well, the bulk of the rollout will be in the new year.

"So having two vaccines that appear to have effectiveness, done right, in the 90% range is really really good news. Fantastic news."

Its very sketchy because none of these companies are telling us how the other percentage responded.

Did they have no reaction at all?

Did they get even more sick?

Did they die?

They are hiding crucial information from us, as pharmaceutical companies always ******* do with every single medicine. 

10% of 8 billion is 800 million people. What is gonna happen to them? 

Im no conspiracy theorist but the more this goes on the more obvious it becomes that the pharmaceutical mafia will earn billions on this, and they ate starting to histerically give us vaccines that are still not good enough yet

Not at all. Pharmaceutical companies have and still do release medicine that barely helps people, and this has been proven, I will be more than happy to provide you with legitimate data all over the Internet. The beginning of this was actually the first released anti-depressants when many psychologists and psychiatrists proved that most pharmaceutical companies actually released medicine based on tampered data (this mostly discovered from the fact that FDA, just like many others, must provide  clear research performed by pharmaceutical companies per demand in accordance to the public knowledge law). From there-on, it was a snowball effect. A lot of pharmaceutical companies, indeed, stopped with these practices, but many still didnt and they base their PR precisely on fear and lack of knowledge. 

It doesn't take much research from legitimate sources for you to know this tbh. Blindly believing someone is just as bad as blindly avoiding to believe. Take the middle road whenever you can. If you don't question anything whatsoever, you're ****ked. These vaccines are still not properly tested, and no matter how much you, and many others, desperately wish for the things to go back to normal, this is not the way. Vaccines should NEVER be rushed, its a rookie mistake.

Governments will need to cash out millions (if not billions for those with a lot of citizens) to purchase these vaccines. This will obviously be deducted from the taxpayers' money. No matter how you put it, we are paying for this. Naturally, it would be an outrage if they made us pay all over once taking the shot, that would just be stealing lol

Yes, but we are paying for it already, lockdowns and quarantine. 

So at least it's something good. In my country they bought too many masks, so they don't know what to do with them now.
