This Day in Pop: the Dream Within a Dream Tour kicks off in 2001 (November 1)

On November 1, 2001, Britney Spears' Dream Within a Dream Tour kicked off at the Nationwide Arena in Ohio. It was launched to support her third studio album Britney and it lasted until July 2002, after 69 shows across the United States, Canada, Japan and Mexico. It was promoted by Concerts West, marking the first time a tour of hers was not promoted by Clear Channel Entertainment. It was directed and choreographed by Wade Robson, with Steve Cohen and Rob Brenner designing the stage.

The setlist was composed by songs from her first three records, mainly from Britney.

16. ...Baby One More Time

Some unreleased songs were also performed at selected dates: Mystic Man, Weakness, You Were My Home and My Love Was Always There.

Some of the October dates had to be pushed back to December due to Britney having the flu, and the last show of the tour at Foro Sol in Mexico, had to be cancelled mid-show because of a thunderstorm that was occurring.

The November 18th show at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, was broadcasted by HBO and later released as a DVD titled Britney: Live from Las Vegas in January 2002. A book and DVD chronicling her stay in Mexico was also released in December 2002, titled Stages: Three Days in Mexico.

With more than 1 million in attendance, the tour grossed a total of $56.8 million which would be equivalent to $83.4 million in 2020.

I still have my Britney: Live from Las Vegas DVD somewhere. Watched it to death when I was younger. I loved the cover too, she rocks the Elvis suit

Still her best tour and the best 2000s pop girl show. It's peak Britney and she was on fire the entire duration of the tour. 

I made my sister watch my Live from Las Vegas DVD last month and she was shook that a show like this existed. Not when she's seen the Speak Now: World Tour Live DVD.

I mean no shade to Taylor and all pop girls who aren't Britney but you can't tell me your shows are better than Dream Within a Dream when she has something that all you pop girls don't - she's Britney, biech.

Such a legendary tour, honestly. Its her greatest and perfectly embodied the peak of Britney's career and how it felt like experiencing it. My sister who was a huge fan of Britney back then, had the DVD

peak everything minus the flop charts because they banned her on the radio but it didn't matter because she was the top earning CELEBRITY period that era (see Forbes 2002 list for proof)

The Las Vegas HBO special then releasing it as a DVD + the Stages DVD was an amazing idea especially for me because I lived in a country she would never tour plus I was too young to go travel to see her

There was no better tour. That was Primeney. The same tour with the same outfits would be sold out in Europe today.
