Britney Spears' former conservator Andrew Wallet Speaks To Daily Mail: Britney could be in a conservatorship forever, the #FreeBritney supporters don't know what they're talking about

Britney Spears is embroiled in a nasty legal battle with her father Jamie Spears. 

Jamie is currently the conservator over his daughter's estate, something Britney is adamant she does not want. Instead, she's asking the courts to approve an independent trust firm to oversee her finances. 

Meanwhile, Jamie is seeking to re-instate Andrew Wallet, who served as Britney's financial conservator for over a decade before suddenly resigning last year (after a pay raise). 

Wallet spoke with the Daily Mail about the conservatorship.  

He says Britney could be in a conservatorship for life and that people supporting the #FreeBritney movement "don't have a clue" what they're talking about.

Wallet said: 'Britney is in a conservatorship for good reason but a lot of the Free Britney people have no experience with the law.'

'These legal procedings are complex and people jump to conclusions,' he said.

'Their perception is so wrong but you can't go and tell them why because a lot of it is confidential.'

'You have a lot of people who don't have a clue but meanwhile we can't talk about it. It's frustrating but it is what it is.'

'If Britney wasn't a celebrity none of this stuff would get talked about.'

'The most important question is whether the conservatorship is in her best interests.'

'That's what you always have to ask yourself and I absolutely still believe that the conservatorship is in her best interests.

'This movement on social media has definitely complicated matters. There are people lurking in the shadows pushing an agenda.'

'I can't say who but it is hurting Britney, she's the only one who gets hurt by all this.'

'I have my own theories and things are going to come out during discovery and the trial [to determine who gets appointed].'

'There is a lot of criticism that is completely wrong.'

 'It is not in Britney's best interests to be outside the conservatorship but there's a lot of politics involved.'

'Britney to this day does not have the capacity to sign documents and make decisions for herself.'

'Protecting her assets is very important and for that the conservatorship has to stay in place because she is susceptible to undue influences.' 

Wallet also adds that Britney is tired of performing. 

'She's tired of it. She's done, at least for now.

'She's within her rights to decide that, you can't make her work or do something she doesn't want to do.'

'The conservatorship isn't in place to make her do things she doesn't want to do.'

'It's in place to protect her. If she doesn't want to work she doesn't have to work. No one can force her.

'I have had people in conservatorship who have got themselves right and it has been terminated but you don't see that because they're not people in the public eye.'

'Other people can be in a conservatorship their whole lives. I'm not saying that's going to be Britney but it could happen to her.' 

According to legal docs, from February 2014 onwards Wallet was being paid $426,000 a year for managing the estate. It's no wonder he wants things to stay as-is.

Britney's lawyer Samuel Ingham, says part of Wallet's resignation agreement was a $100,000 payment, described as a 'golden parachute.'

'There's so many things I did to help with Britney's success,' Wallet said.

'She was on multiple tours and had a Vegas residency while I was co-conservator.'

'What I was paid was more than fair for what I was asked to do.'

'In that world, professionals doing what I was doing would be getting over $1 million a year.'

'People say something dastardly must have happened, there was even crazy speculation that I had stolen money.'

'None of it is true and what they don't realize is how much everybody is scrutinized by the court.'

'There was no corruption, it's all wild speculation but you've just got to shake your head and deal with it.'

'If you look at what people have been paid, it's all been ordered by the court.'

'There are very detailed accountings which are presented to the court and have to be approved by the court.'

'If there was something wrong with it the court would say so.'

In recent court docs, Britney's attorney Ingham explained why Britney is opposed to having Wallet re-instated. 

Ingham said: 'During the entire 11 years the he acted as co-conservator of her estate, Mr Wallet had little or no direct contact with Britney.

'At this point, as she continues to move in the direction of greater autonomy, it is hardly surprising that Britney now prefers to work with a corporate fiduciary who can offer both a physical office and a team of independent financial professionals rather than a single individual, hand picked by her father, who is a complete stranger to her.'

The explosive comments come amid a court battle to decide whether Wallet, 67, will be reinstated as co-conservator of Britney's estate alongside her father Jamie Spears.

Speaking to DailyMail.com in his hometown of Camarillo, on the outskirts of Los Angeles, Wallet said he had been asked by Jamie to come back and help with the conservatorship in August and expects the decision to take around a year.

Asked why Britney believes he is unsuitable to be her co-conservator, he said: 'She can say whatever she wants.'

He went on to attack the online Free Britney campaign, which claims the singer is being held captive by the conservatorship and exploited by her father and others.

When asked, Wallet declined to comment on why he stepped down as Britney's co-conservator in March last year.

The lawyer also claimed it is possible that Britney could be kept in the conservatorship for life.

Jamie told the New York Post's Page Six: 'All these conspiracy theorists don't know anything. The world doesn't have a clue.

'It's up to the court of California to decide what's best for my daughter. It's no one else's business.'
