Announcing Exhale Emotes 2.0!

Hey y'all! So hopefully in the past couple weeks, you've noticed some improvements to Exhale emotes, specifically in searching for emotes. The Exhale emotes system now has two new powerful features that make it easier than ever to find the emotes you're looking for! 

Categories

Exhale emotes are now grouped together based on emotion, so you can choose from emotes easily based on your mood! Categories now include:

• Emotes (Miscellaneous/General)
• Happy
• Laughing
• Memes
• Sad
• Sass
• Shocked

I also tried to group within categories. So for example, within the categories, I put all the Britney gifs together. 

Tags

Previously, you had to know what the name/shortcode or part of the name/shortcode was of an Exhale emote to be able to search for it and find it. Well now, every emoticon has multiple tags so that, hopefully, you can search anything related to your emote and it will show up in the search results.

For example, to find this emote,  , you can use any of the following tags below, and the emote will show up in results:

• Britney
• FTR
• For the Record
• Hat
• Paris
• French
• Smile
• Grin
• Happy

Feedback

I've been wanting these features for a long time, and luckily, @Jordan Miller was able to find some workarounds that made this possible and was willing to give me access to implement the features. I've spent the past couple weeks going one-by-one for each emote and creating tags for each of them. I also had to individually categorize them on my own.

This means that there is a lot of room for human error. Therefore, if you think that an emote should have a certain tag, that an emote needs to be put in a different category, or that there should be a new category of emotes, please let me know! I will be happy to implement your suggestions if they are appropriate.

This is fabulous. I was not too keen on the idea of an external search engine, so I'm glad there was a way to keep it within the bounds of Exhale.  For the most part, I end up only really using my most recent emotes. However, this has made it less overwhelming to look for different ones. Thanks for the hard work you've put into this. Props!

i love this!!!! just a sugestion, maybe it's already implemented, but emotes should be able to appear in more than 1 category if they fit them.

Thanks for the suggestion! The way the emote system is built within the forum is that you’d have to upload the emotes multiple times to include in multiple categories. This will take up more site storage and make the emotes and site run slower unfortunately.

If there is any gif that you think belongs in a different category, let me know and I can move it to category that makes more sense!

Gurl i was going to come for someone’s wig because I had existing issues using Emotes on my mobile devices, so these changes made it even more difficult! 

But now that there have been some theme updates/maintenance (it seems ) I am able to use emotes once again!

Thank you for preserving the original names in addition to adding more tags!  As an exhale alumni, I’ve memorized my favorites by name so glad i can still do so!
