Katy Perry on whether she would do a K-pop collab: "I don't want to be part of a trend, I want to be part of a movement"

Katy Perry wouldn't consider participating in a K-pop collab unless it was part of a movement.

She considers artists jumping on these K-pop songs a move to gain streams.

"I would love to do it if the song is amazing, if it feels authentic. I don't want to be part of a trend, I want to be part of a movement and a part of something authentic. I don't need to jump on anything... to be completely honest I feel like some of that can be just people trying to make numbers, and I'm not here to make numbers. I'm here to move hearts."

“If BLACKPINK has like the dopest song that makes me feel **** and connected... I am totally there."

Stream "Sour Candy" and "Ice Cream." :gagasmile_smirk_lady_pink:

I mean to be honest that's the truth right there. It's not that shady. I mean its obvious artists collaborate with K-Pop to attract other demographics (younger crowd) but same goes to K-Pop artists being featured with big American artists, they will also reach other audiences and I am sure they are looking for more recognition in the US as well. It is a win win situation.

I just like she says she needs to connect with the song. I like the moves she made for her last album and how she is not thriving for numbers as much.

dead at the shade. as if any of her previous collaborations weren't hopping on some kind of trend.....

You could also argue that k-pop is more of a movement....

She sounds so hypocritical. I can't.

Perry's style is already camp-y to collaborate with another camp-y trend, so I think it's not gonna work. Plus, kpop is not my thing so I am hoping she will keep herself in her own lane. js

Yet when people were doing a movement behind Ellen - to get her off air/apologize for her actions. Katy was all "i never had any bad experience, Ellen was always good to me"

So i guess a movement she can "pick" is the more honest answer :chrissy_xtina_head_tilt_purse_sass:

I don´t understand what you (Exhalers) don´t get!? She explained herself why she would´t do it in a very polite and honest way! Whether her album flopped or not, they gave her a question and she gave them an answer. Simple as that. I totally agree with her. For example I don´t like how Madonna always try to collaborate with someone huge or popular at the time!

K-pop or whatever it is definitely is a trend and it doesn´t connect with me at all either and it will disappear the same ways as Gangnam style or what that was disappeared. Does it make number? Yes! Does it move people? Will it be remembered? Absolutely not! There is nothing artistic about the Blackpink or the other boyband....:trash_throw_away_recycle:

I like honest artists and I respect Katy for this answer

I get what she is saying but it's extremely ignorant. Just because Kpop has gained momentum in U.S. within the last few years, doesn't take away from the genre in their homeland. Funny how it's white people here that are condemning a whole cultural music style. Screams of "not in MY country".

I fully agree.

That's why I prefer authentic flops like "Never Worn White" to trend-chasing accidents like "Ice Cream".

I was about to say the same thing. I mean, Perry's aware of her commercial failure for the last 3 years, but these "pressed" people are still bringing up numbers and sales like they're getting paid for it.

Btw, if it's really a troll job, join me in.
