Does anyone else think Blackout is overrated?

I really do like the general dark pop theme of the album but I do find that many tracks fall short. There's some great songs like Piece Of Me, Gimme More, Perfect Lover, Outta This World, and Get Back but then on the other hand you have songs like Everybody, Hot As Ice, Radar, Why Should I Be Sad and so forth which sound a bit sloppy. Even a bit too robotic and one dimensional. What is the consensus on this? The reason I ask is because there is an Exhale user (Blackout 2006) who claims it's the greatest pop album of all time when I think there's far better albums out there.

No :martini:

The best electronic/dance album on par with COATD of the 00s :martini:

Would it make sense if I said ROL is overrated? :martini:

Exactly, no :martini:

The album is too influential and iconic to be shoved as overrated :martini:
The fact Britney was able to make her greatest record in the darkest time of her life >>>> :martini:

Its influence is still there in traces to this day even :martini:

For example- Reputation by Taylor Swift :martini:

So no, it isn’t :martini:

Its part of the trinity of pop, as it stands to be as influential as Thriller and ROL :martini:

Thank you next

Nooo :martini:

Its influences was short-lived :martini:

Which genre was popularized by Ariana in 2019? Trap-pop :martini:

And now which genre is popular in 2020? Pure pop, disco and euro-dance music :martini:

Blackouts influence still was relevant from 2007-2013 and even to this day but in a lesser form :martini:

But even Rolling Stones recognizes Blackout as one of the most influential pop albums :martini:

It influenced a whole new wave of trap pop. Look at Madison Beer, Justin Bieber, and a lot of her other peers. I'm just saying, facts are facts.

Yes.

Whilst I recognise it’s significance and it’s influence on pop music, the album and era fills me with dread.

At the time, I used to get up early every morning to check the old eFG forums to make sure Britney was still alive. The whole album leaked bit by bit and the release was pushed up. Her personal life was overshadowing the album.

It was a hard time to be a Britney fan. I don’t have good memories of it. There is nothing from the album that I listen to these days.

Personally I think Circus is a better album.

It's fairly rated. If anything it's quite underrated by people outside the fanbase who only know her singles and never took the effort to listen to her albums.

I don't see how you could classify this album as overrated when it wasn't particularly acclaimed by critics outside of the fanbase. It's kinda a niche/cult-album for people who have been initiated into it.

Blackout was an important artistic moment in Britney's career, and a good evolution musically. It was drastically different from In The Zone and her previous albums. The fact that she managed to release an album that is as good as blackout in the middle of a mental breakdown and all the chaotic negative attention she was getting all the time is quite crazy. The album really feels like a complete cohesive body of art despite the messy conditions in which it was released.

As for the influence thing, i don't know. The album itself was already influenced by the timbaland sound, so it's not like that sound is super unique to Britney. There are a few albums released in 2006-2007 that have that electro-r&b sound, but Blackout is one of the best representations of that particular sound for sure.

Lmao """Trap-pop"""" was already a thing since like 2012-2013 imo. Ariana didn't influence ****, that whole thing wasn't started by her she just participated to it. A tons of people were doing the same thing, just go on soundcloud. Pop has always been merging with other music trends of the moment. The whole hip-hop/urban revival started in 2013.

No, it’s not overrated at all. I still play it to this day and all of the tracks (except for Why Should I Be Sad, I blame Pharrell) are golden bangers.
underrated is a better term for the way it was treated upon release and promotion.

........Yes

Yyes it is one of her least consistent bodies of works next to Britney Jean. The tracks have a great individuality but lacking as a whole. Standouts are Ooh Ooh Baby, Piece of Me and Hot as Ice.

But for a Britney album its very poor.

Blackout is Overrated by this fan-base whereas Glory is underrated.

Glory conceptually, sonically and consistently is one of her best if not her best pieces of work post itz.

Where as Blackout is one of her weakest

I mean, kinda? Not in the sense that its legacy is undeserved, but rather that I think Brit has much better albums than Blackout. I feel like Blackout surpassed everyone's expectations back in 2007 because there was so much controversy surrounding Brit at the time, so a lot of people probably expected the album to be a mess but were pleasantly surprised that it was cohesive.
