Dido: Appreciation Thread

What up, Exhale

For any of you who is in their late twenties and older, hope I can stir some memories. If you're younger than that, time to get schooled, kid.

Before Adele, Lily and Amy Winehouse - which I all love - there was this other lady representing England, and that was DIDO. 

She is best known by her collaboration with Eminem in 'Stan' and her solo hits 'Thank you' and the glorious 'White Flag'.  Also, she co-wrote 'I'm not a Girl, not yet a Woman', by our very own queen. 

Dido has one of the most unique and recognizable voices out there, and her songwriting has a haunting power. 

I will now discuss some of my faves by her:

'Here with Me' - Her debut single, and one of the most important songs in my entire life

'Sand in my Shoes' - one to which 9-5ers can relate

'Life for Rent' - showcasing her gorgeous voice

'Don't Leave Home' - on paper, a love song; in reality, a song in which ***** serenade their user, yup.

She came to México not too long ago, but I was broke 

What are your thoughts on her?

My dad sometimes asks me if she's still active, and I'm like

I knew she released something last year or couple of years ago, but tbh I haven't checked it, I just don't know if it's gonna be as good as her early stuff.

When I heard the latest stuff Nelly Furtado put out, I got depressed lol it was just, not that good, so I'm kinda scared to check the new material that artists I used to listen to a million years ago and then didn't know anything about them, are releasing nowadays.

She put out an album last year. It’s not bad, it’s even more upbeat than the rest of her catalogue, but it didn’t cause much impact in me.

This one I liked, though: 

 I totally get you, Nelly Furtado didn’t live up to her own greatness.

"Life for Rent" AND its music video is a song that stops time for me. THAT good. I never listened to her albums and should probably do so.

Side note, I remember how Elliot in Scrubs was picked on for liking Dido by J.D. . I felt bad for her even if it's a comedy.

OMG yusss  I love Dido. Her last album Still on My Mind was on my 2019 top 10 list. That album helped me get through my decision to leave San Francisco. If you guys haven't listened check out:
