I've noticed that people, especially in this forum, have been longing for a comeback of pop music in its purest, most sugary form, and I feel like this genre provides that! Specially in k-pop there's an increasing interest in this sort of retro vibe and I felt like sharing some of my favourites because I think that they're the best soundtrack for these summer days :makeitrain:

Both K-Pop and 80s revival pop are very near and dear to my heart, so I'm really into city pop as well, obviously. :kylie: Yukika is absolutely incredible. :yasqueen: Fell in love with this one on first listen:

It's not exactly city pop, but the vibe and aesthetic are there. It's definitely more 80s revival than disco, so I'd say it fits under the city pop umbrella. :typing:

This one's an absolute gem of a song. :blast:

A very unique take on city pop. The aesthetic is not there, but the influence is very clear when listening to the song. :typing:

Personally, I don't consider this song city pop, but I've seen many people say it's city pop influenced. Maybe my view of city pop is just too narrow? Still an absolute gem nevertheless. :jabba:

I'm still bitter about this being one of their most overlooked tittle tracks because it's literally one of their best ones. I wish it wouldn't have flopped and they would've relesed more songs with this sultry feel because they are SO good at that :pleaseshhh:

It's an incredible song, but I agree with fans when they say that this song was not a good career move for them. It came out after "Hobgoblin", which was the first time they had gotten a considerable amount of attention, but this song was a complete 180 and destroyed all the hype they had garnered. Should've just been a b-side. :typing:

City pop is my jammmm! Right before the epidemic began, me and my friend (I DJ in my free time and he's a producer) organized an amazing party in this club we rented. It was city pop influenced with video projectors at all the walls and animations of old japanese animes (from the 70s). The club can hold like 1200 people max, and we got like a bit over 1000 people coming. It was so ******* good. I'm very happy that kpop is coming bk with the vibe :mhm:

The animations were something like this (obviously not with this music lol)

GURL CLC?! The tasttteee you have is just *chef's kiss * impeccable sis.

So here's the thing, I love City Pop, but it  seems to me more an aesthetic choice than a musical one. i'm only saying that because there's a lot of music with retro themes that I think could fit the bill for what we're all calling city pop, even if people haven't collectively heard it and decided "this is City Pop".

Anyway, here are some songs I love even if I'm not 100% sure all the lol

These one is most clearly City Pop.

There's an argument for how something like this COULD be City Pop, regardless it's still a bop.

Likewise with this bop right here.

Also here some of the japanese songs I love with the same feel:

I really love this thread btw, thank you for making it lol.
