I think everybody has the wrong idea. The OP doesn’t want to literally cancel Britney. They’re saying we should use that hashtag to garner attention regarding Free Britney. Because let’s be honest, people (general public) are more interested in cancel culture than they are Britney’s freedom. Is it a dangerous and risky move? Yes and it can backfire but I do see where it’s coming from. 
 

gaga did a similar promo when applause came out, saying gaga is cancelled when Roar outsold. Same with Beyoncé when she did coined “boycott Beyoncé” After the super bowl.
