Rita Ora accused of blackfishing

Rita Ora is under fire for "blackfishing" after the Internet begins discovering both of her parents are white Albanians.

Le sigh.

A new Tweet about it received a lot of attention. Naturally, it opened the door for Rita to receive a lot of hate.

In 2016, talk show host Wendy Williams told Ora, "I thought you were half-Black and half-white, or something like that."

Ora replied: "Everybody usually does. I might as well be. But no, I'm Albanian."

Does Rita wearing these kinds of hairstyles, dressing a certain way... is she trying to portray herself as a black woman?

I'm a little hesitant to comment, but I feel like this backlash is a bit unwarranted. Thoughts?

Last time I checked she was a human being living her life and wearing all kinds of hair. What’s the problem? :boredney:

Someone explained this better than I could, so I’m just going to quote them :)

”Also I would just like people to consider the fact that in the US hair styles that are traditionally associated with black people are often banned from schools and workplaces, considered unprofessional and dirty. That’s why it’s a problem. A white woman wears it for fashion while it is literally a part of black history and culture and if a black person showed up to school/work with their natural hair or a traditional style they would be asked to leave.

Until the playing field is levelled it will still be considered controversial.“

I get it and I respect that, however here we’re not at school and also, these artists aren’t children. Should we define the word artI don’t know, I hope I don’t sound rude to anyone that’s why I’m going to stop here.
