Faith is restored! Madonna leaves Interscope for Warner

In 2007, Madonna, then 49-years-old, announced she was leaving Warner Bros. Records (Her label since 1982), for a 10-year deal with Live Nation Entertainment worth $120 million. 

While it was exciting, many fans now feel leaving Warner was a big mistake. Most critics believe her best music was created with Warner, and now Hard Candy seems an authentic Madonna album (listen to her 1983 debut album, it's an updated modern take on her original album).

While the tours were a commercial successful, the three albums weren't. Many felt she made albums to tour, but given she signed a contract with a touring giant acting like a record label... that was the whole point of her contract.

Fast forward to 2020. Madonna has parted ways with Live Nation and Interscope. Madonna is under a new contract with Warner (rumor has it she committed to four albums with Warner).

They better keep giving us those maxi singles / EPs. IIRC, we've gotten "Vogue" and "Human Nature" so far. Can't wait to see what's next.

FINALLY. While I like Rebel Heart and Madame X, they became bored and unmemorable pretty quick. (I hate MDNA).

I've definitely liked a handful of what she's put out under Interscope but the buzz and the thrill of her earlier albums just hasn't been there. I really want her to release just a solid dance-pop album again like Confessions or even another Ray of Light-esque concept album but with the cohesiveness and the solid structure that just hasn't been there for Madame X, Rebel Heart or MDNA. 

I admired the idea of Madame X but ultimately it was quite messy and the heavy autotune of Madonna's vocals on much of the tracks was unpleasant. I did REALLY like God Control, I Don't Search I Find and Ciao Bella but other than that, it was a strange and clumsily-structured album with an often-unfinished sound. To be crude, it almost sounded like a posthumous album as Madonna just didn't sound present at all on most of the tracks. Almost like she had her own Myah Marie.  

 

Rebel Heart was overall very enjoyable to listen to but just really lacked the fire and the energy of her better albums. As much as there was an obvious attempt at a theme - being rebellious with heart  - it just didn't flow well as a collective. There are definitely bops to be found; I adore Living for Love, Devil Pray, ***-ly Water , S.E.X. , Unapologetic *****, Ghosttown and Joan of Arc. I also think ***** I'm Madonna is brutally underrated but maybe that's just the PC Music ***** inside me. Tbf I don't really dislike a single song on this record, it just wasn't up to Madonna standards.

 

MDNA again is solid but it's just not up to Madonna standards. I'm a **** for a dance-pop album, especially from the early 2010s - but a few of the songs on MDNA are just very dull and run-of-the-mill. Give Me All Your Luvin' and Turn Up the Radio are very meh, and shouldn't have been singles when the masterpieces that are **** **** and Love Spent exist. Girl Gone Wild is a gay anthem though and should've hit number 1 . Masterpiece and Falling Free are also quite nice and very classic Madonna ballads. I don't really like any other songs from this album though, a lot of them like B-Day Song and Some Girls are quite cringey. I liked I'm Addicted at first but the more I listened, the more unsatisifed I became because it never quite hits the heights you expect it to hit.

"MDNA" is trash, "Rebel Heart" is good, but it's way too long. "Madame X" is great, but I would've cut like 2 songs (Batuka, Bish I'm Loca) to make it perfect. It's not an album you can listen to on the daily, though. So yeah, this is definitely a good thing.  Also, this got uploaded to her YT yesterday:

I just hope this doesn't affect MATM videos in any way. Remember when all the MATM live videos were taken down or muted? I never understood what was the real problem with it, like, I knew it had to do with Madonna, but I never understood why or when did they stop muting the MATM videos

According to one of my friends, Expect all the back catalog of remixes to drop soon. 

 

This was part of the contract deal, they also gave her the masters for free to her original recordings

Warner claimed copyright on Madonna vocals. Hint why it was taken down.

Live Nation are a touring company, by muting fan videos and unauthorised usage, they can sway people more toward seeing her live because it’s hard to watch anything on YouTube. Unfortunately MATM is/was on this list too.

OMG I thought i was the only one that thought that. The whole album was complete garbage but Rebel Heart had some brilliant songs on it like Ghosttown, rebel heart, joan of arc. but the thing that bugged me last year during madame x era was, during the rebel heart era, she was quite open in interviews and i actually saw her live on the rebel heart 2015 tour in glasgow and she was amazing and really interacted with the audience and was funny. But last year i thought the madame x persona she made up  for the album was stupid, i cringed everytime she referred to herself in  3rd person as Madame X and i kept thinking i want Rebel Heart Madonna back!
