thelegendney
I think about this topic fairly often, I feel as though Circus should have been the lead single over Womanizer, and also the first track of the album. -the very opening of the song to me feels like such an amazing opener to an album idk why they didn't do it that way, don't get me wrong I LOVE the beat of womanizer and the beginning, but Circus is so fitting -there is something so chilling, exciting, electrifying about this song and is a little reflection on her life at the time that to have it as a lead single would have been more iconic tbh. The pre chorus is EVERYTHING and is simply my favorite part of the entire track. Its almost haunting in a way and is so good. I think setting off the tone of the era with Circus and the MV would have done just as good as womanizer in my eyes, and maybe would have made it a little more popular than it actually is. -I feel like Circus is underrated and not as popular compared to most of her singles, when it is honestly one of her best songs to date imo. I think it is overshadowed by womanizer (I LOVE womanizer of course still but) and the MV>>> -I am very glad she opened TCS:BS with Circus because you could just tell straight away, how powerful it was and the beginning of it and just ahhh -plus the breakdown of the song is outstanding and this song is iconic, and to me felt like a true comeback song, just the concept of it just really set the mood for what was going to come next with the era, and also the past and what her life was at the time Link to comment
Iconic 4 U
I agree, Circus is a strong single and I think it would have made a great introduction to the album especially since it's the literal name of the album😩 but I do love Womanizer of course Link to comment
Hooked-On-Knee
Womanizer was a great 1st single choice but I agree that Circus should have been the first track on the album... it RUINED the "title track starts the album" theme that Britney had with all her other albums that had title tracks Link to comment
Isla
I think Womanizer was fine as a lead single, but Circus should have been the album’s opening track. And Kill the Lights could have easily followed after. Link to comment
sugarfallxofme
i’ve been thinking that for days. it’s such a powerful song imo, and also it reflects really well what britney was going through that time. of course i love womanizer though Link to comment
jor to tha deezy
"Womanizer" and "Circus" were AMAZING single choices!! "Circus" IMO is very close to "Toxic" in the category of being both experimental and radio-friendly Link to comment
Fab britney
Idk womanizer was more of an instant smash Link to comment
Joshyworld
She should have snatched Ryan Tedder's 'Apologize' and made it the first single off Circus. Imagine the utter shock and CRITICAL ACCLAIM. Link to comment
5HINee
I have this theory that if circus was chosen as the lead single, it would be number 1 on hot100. So as a conclusion, we would have 2 number #1s from circus because there is no way a song like womanizer doesn't hit number 1 Link to comment
