Was Britney on Accutane?

Ok. First of all, I know some of you will take this topic as a joke because acne is considered as something common and not a serious thing. Well, acne is heavily linked to anxiety and depression, and Britney's post made me re-think this theory.

From my personal experience, I've always suffered some kind of moderate anxiety but last year, after my grandma passed away and I didn't find a job after getting graduated, my anxiety became severe and I even started to see changes in my face, skin. When I went to my dermatologist, I was prescripted to take Accutane / Roacutane. I knew what this **** was, and what could cause to my mental health (and health in general), so I decided to not take it. I've been dealing with my anxiety with meditation, working out... and it got better, so did my acne. I get emotional acne when I'm really nervous or my anxiety gets intense. So, I see similar things in Britney's experience.

Well, Britney confirmed she was prescripted with some products to treat her acne when she was about to start filming 'Crossroads'. She said she was so nervous that got acne, so her acne was linked to nervous/anxiety. Yup, emotional acne/anxiety's side effect. One more time, I guess it's confirmed that Britney's first and real problem was severe anxiety since day one. Her dermatologist could've prescript products like reinoids creams/serums or glycolic acid or whatever. But, most of the time, dermatologists tend to prescript Accutane pills... a lot of celebs have admited to take it in the past (Bella Thorne, I think). It's a fast way to get rid of acne but side effects are not that good.

If I look into the timeline and how Britney dealt with 2002 and early 2003, I would not be surprised. The **** was taken off from the market back in the day and I think its name was changed or something. Dosis were slowed down after 2009, I think.

Accutane and other isotretinoin products are effective treatments for serious acne. But the **** can have extremely serious side effects: mental health problems -- including depression, psychosis, and suicide -- and, when taken by pregnant women, miscarriage or birth defects.

Interesting article about Accutane and possible effects on mental health like depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, psychosis and suicide risks.

Anyone knows more about it? Did Britney talk about these things in the past?

I know she’s been linked to Proactive Solution but that’s all I’m aware of, unless she shared the name of a product, there’s really know way to know, esp. if it’s a prescription med.

Yes she had and was slammed for saying pro active was what she uses but really it was accutane. I took have taken it and that’s a stretch. So many medications have side effects and they keep switching medications so she reacts differently to them. The only real concern is damage to the liver as I have went through it twice and doctors are like you can’t do anymore it’s gonna ruin liver. It does cause mental health but that’s while you are on it hence why you do regular check ups.

this is exactly what Lou and Jamie do, they pull one tiny detail and over blow it. She screams out of frustration and they think she has a manic episode. She travels to so many cities she does r remember all of them but they think she has dementia.

To me she’s just a regular person who are surrounded by leeches who will use anything to justify her being in their control. They had paps snap pics of her using her phone while in the car and let the media report it so it makes her look irresponsible when it was a red light.

she also uses clearasil so yeah just an average teen going through puberty yet under a microscope of the whole world watching your every move

Britney has always had acne ... I even understand that she had childhood eczema.Britney has always had very bad skin and that adds to her anxiety, bad habits and even she doesn't get a proper facial cleanse. All medications have their side effect but I don't think this is the case, not this specifically.

P.S. I feel your loss and experience.

Proactive dried out my skin and the moisturizer was too greasy,  bad combo

Don't forget to always hydrate your skin. Acne treatments dry our skin and we need to hydrate, so we can avoid deshidrated skin (which it's often confused with dry skin)

What about chemical peelings, retinol, vitamin C or glycolic acid? My skin is so much better with a good skincare routine. I don't need those pills and its effects in my body.Keeping Up With The Kardashians Kardashian GIF by E!

I tried everything. My dermatologist prescribed me several creams, acids, soaps, cleansers. When I used it everyday my skin was clearing, but when I stopped even for 1 day, I would break out like crazy in the following day, and really painful, red and botchy acne. It was definetly a last resort type of situation. We spent a whole year trying to figure out what would clear my skin before using that nuke.

If your skincare regime is working for you, it means that you won’t need the ****, that is good! My skincare regime Is working now for me too, thankfully I will never have to take that **** again either.

Accutane should only be used as a last resort, given all the cons that it has.

I had severe acne as a teenager and got a course of Accutane which cleared my acne up completely. It was a last resort for me, and I had to read what was basically a textbook of possible side effects before I agreed to do it. I also had to go to the hospital for monthly blood tests to make sure it wasn’t damaging my kidneys and liver.

Not so fast there. I took Accutane in my first year of college and my hair literally started to fall out a few months in. I had to get monthly blood tests while on it, too. Once the side effects really started showing up, I just stopped and said I'd rather have bad skin then lose my damn hair. I don't even think they still prescribe Accutane in 2020, do they? It's aggressive af.

I also took monthly blood tests. The only side effects for me were dry skin, eyes, nose and lips. I needed eye drops, a lip balm and loads of moisturizer and sunscreen. It is definitely a treatment that needs to be evaluated by a doctor while you are taking those pills :mhm:

It was a last resort for me. My doctor tried every cream under the sun before prescribing that medicine. I used it for 9 months (because of my height and weight), in 2014-15 :katyfrog:

It is called Roacutan here in Brazil, it is basically isotretinoin :jj:

I have severe acne that eventually comes back every 3 years or so. I took Accutane as a teen, but topical clindamycin is just as effective, at least for me, and much safer.

As a side note, weirdly enough, one of my favorite things about Britney is her skin issues. I suffer from acne, rosacea, eczema, and psorasis. It hasn't cropped up yet because I'm only 27, but I suspect I'll have premature wrinkling due to the products I use to keep everything under control. Most anti-aging products cause me to break out or can't be combined with my topicals. This might be part of the reason why she looks "so bad" for her age to some people.  Britney reminds me that I can still be beautiful, even if my skin isn't perfect.

As someone who works in dermatology I’ll say this, it is the LAST resort that derms use because it is HEAVILY regulated and you have to meet multiple standards to be on. Severe anxiety and depression or previous suicide attempts are automatic failures for you to even be considered. It’s monitored monthly by blood and pregnancy tests and you must confirm 2 forms of birth control (females). I doubt Britney was EVER on it as it’s extremely regulated and you have to be seen literally every 4 weeks.

We do. But it’s a LAST resort. Mainly because there is multiple regulations that both patients and providers must meet to use it.
