Both are iconic pop songs. One is probably the most well known boy band song ever and the other is probably the most well known song by a teenage artists ever. Which was the bigger hit? I wasn’t alive at the time by the way!

Baby One More Time by far. I was 7 when it came out and I heard about her first before the BSB. There was this girl in my class who was obsessed with BSB, but everyone was obsessed with Britney. Britney is American culture period :staysalty:

As someone who wasn't alive when either song came out, I grew up listening to both. I think BOMT was the bigger song, especially in America, while maybe in Europe, I Want It That Way was bigger considering their huge following there. That's just me speculating based on what I've read though.

Baby One More Time lol

I love I Want It That Way but I only discovered it in my teens while I heard BOMT like a 100 times on the tv, radio, etc during my childhood

Baby One More Time wasn’t just a song...it was a literal movement. There really hasn’t been a song since its release with the lasting impact that it had and even to this day, it still remains the most polarizing pop song of all time in my opinion. You can play that song a 100x in a row and you won’t get tired of it. The definition of replay value. :mimiclap:

I think in 1999 IWITW was slightly more successful, at least in Latin America where I am from.
But after more than 20 years, if you ask people for 1999 songs they will immediately answer BOMT,
its an ageless anthem :lizzie::letitburn:.

Well if we look at charts, According to Mediatraffic, Baby one more time was the 2nd best-selling single of 1999 selling 8.915 million units internationally. Whereas, I want it that way was the 8th best-selling single of 1999 selling 5.88 million units internationally :heresthetea:
