I'm bored so let's discuss... :chrissy:

What do you think were the best and worst years of music during the 2010s decade?

IMO, I'd say 2010-2012 was probably the peak of EDM and big-chorus pop last decade. 2013 was also a great year for mainstream pop, edm and indie music overall. 2014 was also amazing for indie pop/rock, as well as trap/hip-hop. And finally, 2016-18 for hip-hop and latin trap. 2019 was also a really great for alternative r&b and indie pop/rock.

To conclude, I'd probably say 2013 was the best year of music last decade and 2015 as the definitive worst. 2018 was pretty bad too but honestly, 2015 takes the cake because that was when mumble rap began to dominate the airwaves and literally all the pop music then sounded the same and unoriginal. :tina:

Feel free to vote in the poll. I'm curious to see what y'all think were the best and the worst years for music last decade. :ramona:2010s.jpg.5b4f06e1a823b612113da92b203ca08b.jpg

I guess 2011, 2014, and 2019 are my faves. 2010 is my least fave only because every record sounded like a breakup song to me cause I went through a breakup that year. :imacat:

I voted that too :haha:

but I think 2011 was really my favorite year. I remember going to the cafeteria in my high school and they were always playing this tv channel, I think  it was Fuse, and I would genuinely enjoy every music video they would play, not just Britney's. It was a really good year in terms of pop, EDM, etc.

This is a tough one...

I think 2014 was my favorite one

2018 was probably the least one, not because the music I actually liked, but because mainstream top ones were awful.

agreed. 2018 and 2015 were pretty bad years for music.

2014 was such a great year for specifically indie music. The early 2010s in general had a great indie scene. Cage The Elephant, Arctic Monkeys, The 1975, The Neighborhood, Vampire Weekend, Arcade Fire, Black Keys, Florence Welch, Lana, Sky Ferreira, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, etc....I miss that era :fakecry::crying3:

Yeah! I love indie music as much as I love pop!

I have gone with 2013 as my favourite because ‘10-‘13 is littered with bangers so it was a great time to be into pop music.
I’m putting 2019 as my least favourite based only on the fact that as each year passed, the amount of songs I liked was less and less. There was almost nothing from last year that does it for me. I feel like diversity on the charts died off after 2015 too.

Favorites: 2010, 2015, 2016, 2017

Least favorites: 2012, 2013, 2014

2013 is hard for me though, because there were a few songs I REALLY liked (We Can’t Stop, Blurred Lines, Get Lucky), but then there was Britney Jean, Applause, and What Does the Fox Say? I liked Applause as a song, but it was just a very weird year (back when being random was cool and quirky) and kinda disappointing when it came to some popstars imo.

Favorits almost all

Least favorites: 2010 - 2012

why?

If I go back to that moment, I feel that the changes were very drastic in these two years, now one sees it and the music is fantastic and necessary, but in those years the music tended to be darker, the years 2011 2013 the music tended to be more positive, this year of course 2020 the music is super bad for my taste in its majority

Ok so after watching younger day's videos on Youtube - 'hit songs of each year', this is my definitive ranking that literally no one asked for but I'm gonna do anyway cause I'm bored and I like making lists. :byesmoke:

  1. 2011 = 2013 (I mean, let's be real - banger after banger after banger :fakecry:
  2. 2012 (A really second close by only a percentage. Another really great year for music. :mimiclap:)
  3. 2010 = 2019 (Both of these years received 56% but I think I slightly prefer 2019 music. While 2010 may have had some better mainstream music, I think 2019 had overall better bodies of work, especially in the album department. NFR, Igor, WWAFAWDWG, TUN, Hollywood's Bleeding, etc.)
  4. 2015 (To my surprise, this year wasn't AS bad as I thought. Deep/tropical house and acoustic-style pop basically owned the airwaves that year. Oh and the rise of mumble/Soundcloud rap. tired.gif)
  5. 2017 (2017 was a bit musically inconsistent which is why it ranked a bit lower but to my surprise, this year in particular had the most stand out tracks aside from probably 2011 and 2013. Also, the standout tracks from that year don't sound the slightest bit dated. ANYWAY...y'all are crazy for voting 2017 as the worst considering some of the best songs of last decade were released this year. :ari:
  6. 2016 (This year was a hit-and-miss but mostly a miss. :begone: By no means anywhere near the best year of music last decade and am shocked to see it ranked so high on the poll. Knee stans once again proving how delusional they are just because their fave released a subpar album that year. :byesmoke:)
  7. 2014 (I was shocked at how low 2014 ranked. :ohwut: I thought it would have been at least in the top 5 but now that I think about it, literally everything kinda sounded the same that year, especially the hip-hop scene. Talk about mandela effect. :martini: )
  8. 2018 (ok - by far, the DEFINITIVE worst year for music last decade. And now that I reflect back, it really was the lowest point in music history this century so far. I mean, it ranked 29%...doesn't get any worse than that and seems like much of the general public would also agree - https://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2018/11/29/2018-awful-year-pop-hits/2148224002/. :boredashell:)

also electric chair to @Iconic 4 U, @Urbanney and @vzlafan for thinking 2018 was the best year of music last decade and electric chair to @Iconic 4 U / @Urbanney(once again) @sochaotic, and @BUWYGFfor ranking 2011/2013 as the worst. :liar:

I would say the early to mid 10s were good but then once 2017 hit,

music went down the shi!tter

In general, I think music seemed to get really inconsistent from 2015-16 onwards. 2017 and 2019 were pretty good years though.

There's always gonna be a ton of bad music released every year that seems to overshadow the good stuff. Personally, I think 2013 was a great year for mainstream and probably the most definitive year of music from last decade.

2017 had better mainstream music than released albums overall tbh. nevertheless, a pretty strong year for music.
