Would you like Britney to sing with that voice

I'm massively impressed by her performance of 'New York'

I've never seen it before, that's why I felt like doing this thread right now

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dn425JGGvRU

Her voice sounds way more powerful than Ariana's in that 30 seconds clip :gtfo: I knew that her voice was amazing, but honestly I never thought that she had such a powerful one... at 10 wtf :jackk: Even The Voice Kids finalists rarely sound like that?

I was just wondering why she didn't record Private Show & What You Need with her contralto voice like displayed in that video? It would've worked 15 times better since that kind of voice is adapted to these kind of songs? Especially when she sounds so bad/ridiculous in these  On the other hand, her baby voice is more adapted for songs like Make Me or If I'm Dancing or Change Your Mind. A contralto doesn't work with these songs that much. But it would've been amazing with What You Need or Private Show. She could've added long runs and ad-libs to WYN (I gotchu I gotchu I gotchuuuuuu) with a technique/power similar to the one she displays in the video. If she heard these songs, she should've just tried to sing them with her contralto tone?

Let's get back to the original question of the thread: would you want Britney to record a whole album with that specific very-powerful tone or to go rather with a falsetto voice (like in Mona Lisa, it can be pretty amazing 'coz Mona Lisa's got to flyyyyyyyy-yyyy-yyyyyyy)?

Spoiler

Btw, it reminds me that Britney wanted to go to Broadway. Instead of milking her name in a Broadway show that would've probably worked (I already imagine having a show with your songs in Broadway as being the new thing with Gaga's overdramatic-overtryingartistic show, Beyoncé's show being about she & herself, Aguilera forcing the actors to scream louder as a new experimental show, Katy Perry kids section, and so on), they could've let her a total artistic freedom for one album, and using a Broadway style in terms of sonorities & visuals for a visual album.

I think they ruined her real voice by forcing her to sing in the breathy baby voice. I doubt she could still sing in it, even if she was allowed or wanted to.

People always say that, and I think its a bit ridiculous. If anything has "ruined" her voice, its the smoking habit and lack of training. (And possible hardcore partying of her early 20's, allegedly?)

Lets be real here, Britney's voice is not going to get ruined by recording for a couple of weeks every 2-3 years in baby voice for an album. She has not sang live in a decade+ except for the occasional performance here or there (Something to Talk About & You Oughta Know.) :evilpatrick: Honestly, don't mean to be a troll, but in order to ruin your voice singing this way it has to go on for years of abusing said vocal chords and that just has not been the case for her. She hasn't sung live so her voice is not ruined because of that.

Her meds can also be affecting her singing. But honestly I wouldn't be surprised if she got some vocal training between BJ and Glory, because the tings she was doing with her voice for Glory were pretty amazing. Could be all the yoga and breath work that she does, which also helps improve singing ability. But the voice, like anything, is an instrument. And unless you polish it, it ain't gonna sound all that great. I'd say the reason she sometimes sounds like she's croaking is due to chain smoking/her lungs not being as strong so her voice sounds thinner.

Yes I would like her to do more music with her real voice;

specifically ballads cause her ballads that she sung in her real voice are amazing!
I love her cover of Open Arms, she should sing it again cause she sounded great singing it

So, then, you're of the opinion that she didn't record any of the vocals on any of her albums? Because that's hours and hours and months and months in the studio for twenty years. Plus, the first 3 years or so of trying to sing live on endless tour in a voice out of her register.

I don't necessarily agree with the appellation of 'real voice' or 'fake voice' as her baby voice is just a vocal technique.

I don't think that it's enough to ruin your voice. We heard it on Something To Talk About. After all, if you put together all the times she sang live with her baby voice since 2001... it might be just a couple of hours. Same for the studio recording sessions, she took several breaks between them to take care of her voice. The only times I can think of are her first two eras. Still, during BOMT she often switched between her baby-voice & real-voice willingly or not, and during the Oops Tour she started lip-syncing. Honestly it's very unlikely that she's lost her voice, I mean I'm convinced with the leaked Liar vocal sessions & of course her last two live performances (Happy Birthday witnessed it amazingly, her way of singing it screamed 1997ney tbh).

I don't really mind her baby voice, but I'd prefer sometimes her other one. Like a mix between the two. She could've done it on Glory: songs like MM & CYM with her baby voice worked amazingly vocal-wise. On the other hand, WYN & PS were complete garbage because of the baby voice, and she would've rocked these songs if she sang them like she sang something to talk about, in the studio, prepared, with vocal coaches, and not being completely sweaty because of dancing before singing.

Did I ever say she didn't record any of the vocals on any of her albums? Although I am of the opinion she barely recorded for Britney Jean. :chrissy: So you can count mostly an entire album and weeks out of a 3 year period out of the equation. ;)

And is the rest honestly hours and hours, honey? Are you sure about that? Because as far as I know every single person who's worked for her in the past decade has said a variation of the same thing. She's in the studio 30 minutes and she's out.

Kirkpatrick said she knows exactly what she wants to do when she records and she does it quite fast.

"The thing is, she doesn't have to stay long because she's a pro when it comes to being vocal produced,” he said. "You'll say, 'Try it like this,' and she'll just do it. There's no ego, she just ****ing delivers. She's a real one."

But aren’t there loads of pros in the industry?
No. Those aren’t pros. Britney’s a pro. Her time is valuable: she has kids. And a lot of the time with an artist they’ll go into the studio, they’ll sit around, they’re watching TV, they order some food, they’re giggling and joking, they’re searching and listening to other people’s songs, they finally get to work then they take a break, they order some food, their friends come… And that happens for four or five months, sometimes eight months. Britney’s like: “I’m coming in from 2pm until 6pm.” She’ll arrive at 1.30, and from 2 to 6 she’ll be like BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM BAM. BAM BAM BAM BAM. BAM BAM. I’ve never seen anything like that. Her work ethic is pretty admirable.

And she's had the lip synching rumors follow her since the beginning of her career. I love her, but its true. I personally don't have a problem with it, but lets not pretend she was singing live 24/7 in the beginning either.

So you better come correct next time. Just saying. :)

There's absolutely something such as 'real voice'. Everyone has a vocal register. It's what determines whether someone is a soprano, an alto, etc. Singing outside of your register damages your vocal chords. Even excessive and careful singing within one's register can damage one's vocal chords.

Yes, it honestly is hours and hours in the studio. Full days. For months on end. Unless you don't think she sang on her own albums.

And, yes, there's lots of early footage from the first 3 years of her career of her attempting, sometimes more successfully than others, to sing live.

These are just facts.

I'm not convinced that her chords are that damaged tbh, the same goes for her deep voice. She proved it when she sang live (only twice in a decade, but that's not the subject), she used the same technique as she did pre-BOMT. If it was an audio, I would've thought that it was a recording from 1998.

And she can still do some decent ad-libs, as she proved it in Liar (which explained at the same time why the producers that have worked with her were so excited about the album, and blew away by Britney, since they didn't expect her to sing that way)

You're delusional, imo. Even during Blackout people were saying she was in and out of the recording studio. Songs got recorded in 30 minutes or less. She was chewing gum/ice while recording. Half the tracks on some of these albums don't even require any vocals. Would Womanizer wear her voice out? Mmm Papi? Phonography? Get Naked?

We can even go to In the Zone. Would Showdown wear her voice out? Me against the Music? Come on. None of these tracks are vocally demanding. Its RARE that she showcases vocals, which is why Glory is such a godsend. Recording albums in "baby voice" which you could argue happened for some tracks in her first two albums mostly, would not have caused permanent damage. Again, she's been mostly lipping (performances) her entire career.
