"Rain on me" by Gaga is just awful

i just listened to it again to see if it would grow on me, but it literally doesn't. That whole thing, the song, the video, the lack of flavor and substance, is the definition of frontloaded.

no way ppl listen to that song without having to watch the music video.  They're like obligated to make big expensive high budget videos cause the music is so fkn trash, they gotta distract ppl from the boring music, which literally sounds like shopping mall background music, i really love house music and especially french house, which seems to be the main inspiration for the track. But it's like they got rid of everything that makes house music, exciting and uplifting, the song is just a generic mess, it's plain. Where is the flavor ? Chromatica is really awful, Gaga has no taste anymore, it's all so corny.

I agree. I tried to get into the song, but it’s not a good one as much as I tried. She’s howling over the tracks. :tiffdrink:

Chile, are you ok. It's literally the only good thing to come out of this era. :lessons:

Visually, and aesthetically it was on point, but the song is..

But collabs between big popstars are rarely great

The only star in that body of work was the rain rain GIF

Although my favorite music video rain to date, is this rain: cry me a river rain GIF by Justin Timberlake

I'm just over the overuse of colored latex and plastics for clothes, and especially over her crappy voice Rainbow Who Cares GIF by Manon Louart

You don’t like Alice, Plastic Doll, or Sour Candy? :gloriascary:

I didn't say i didn't like anything else from Chromatica. All i'm saying is it's the only saving grace from that lackluster album. Not one of those songs you mentioned are pop masterpieces. :imacat:

Okay, I agree with you on that. :tiffhair: Even though I like it, it’s definitely going to age horribly—especially 911

I probably should go to sleep soon. It’s past 3 am lol

She needs to go back to making 80s inspired music.

So people can drag her for that too? Because that's what the whole BTW era was.

On the subject of the video, I don't understand the "they're like obligated to make big expensive high budget videos cause the music is so fkn trash" drag as if the ROM video is some pristine high quality video? It's one  of the cheesiest CGI videos in a long time both in terms of visuals and choreography which I think that was the intent given Gaga's aesthetics in general, but I wouldn't say that it was high budget.

I think i was kinda shocked at how well it did. I remember I first watched it and laughed at how cheesy it was. A song like Ariana Grandes '7 Rings' yea it's not everyone flavor, but I see why it did well. It's catchy, trap elements in a song is trendy, capitalizing on hip hop vibes is trendy, capitalizing on Asian aesthetics is also trendy, purple vibes, and bad ***** is the current aesthetic for female music stars. Everything made sense.  Rain on Me? It's so cheesy lol it's painful, is that type of pop sound even popular right now? Not in my opinion lol.

I also think this is a genuinely weird moment in pop music. There is no real 'pop sound' atm. No one is consistent outside of Ariana and Taylor but Taylor's influence is fading. The trendy music right now is hip-hop lol. The top 10 songs are all hip hop minus like the Weekend's song Blinding Lights which pulls from 80s pop music. So Rain on Me was just an odd collab to me lol.
