1. What a dumb question to ask in a Britney-focused forum. Of course most people are going to say Britney deserved it more. So obviously this post is not about getting legitimate responses, but rather more about stirring the pot and creating yet another avenue to talk trash about Christina. 2. To answer this truthfully and honestly, you have to strip everything you know about Britney and go only off of what Britney had accomplished and what she represented up until February 23rd, 2000 and compare it to Christina. Both Britney and Christina had a phenomenal year in terms of sales and success. We know Britney's album sold over 10 million in the US alone but Christina's still sold close to 9 million so you're still talking massive success with both. Christina's album garnered more positive reviews from critics overall and while it did have its share of teen bops, it still had a more mature sound and style - so she was taken a little more seriously. Talent wise, Britney was seen as more of a performer where Christina was more of a vocalist. That in itself gave her an edge over Britney. Christina had also done a song for a major motion picture soundtrack (Mulan) so again, it gave her an edge over Britney. Britney was already being plagued with the lip-singing stuff and her live vocals were not celebrated so again, she didn't have the edge that Christina did. Seeing all of this, it's no surprise Christina won. Whether or not her career panned out as well as Britney's is a whole other topic, but if you're talking about the Grammy's as a standalone award, then yah, Christina deserved it over Britney. -
