Tina Turner comes out from her retirement releasing a Kygo remix of her hit What's Love Got to Do with It, her first single since I'm Ready, released in 2008, though her last studio album came out in 1999. Kygo announced the remix on Monday, and the visual has dropped today:

“I couldn’t be more excited to collaborate with Tina Turner, who is an icon that I grew up listening to,” Kygo said in a statement. “‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’ is one of my all-time favorite songs so to have a chance to rework it has been a very special moment in my career. I love working around timeless vocals and although it’s challenging to preserve elements of the original track and adding my own touch, I’m extremely happy with how it turned out!” [Source]

He's also remixed Whitney Houston's Higher Love in the past.

Is doing a remix of a song considered a collaboration tho? :squint:

Well, I think it does. Kygo is not a singer, he's a producer, so it's a collaboration in a way because he's giving his talent to the track, which is producing :mhm:

First off, let me start by saying Tina is amazing. A legend. Iconic af.

This remix on the other hand is... underwhelming.

I really liked what he did with Higher Love, he legit made that song sound better than the demo Whitney recorded, but this? :nonono:

You don’t touch Tina, imo. Especially not one of her biggest, most iconic hits. Her music is flawless already it doesn’t need this.

Collaboration is defined as "the action of working with someone to produce or create something." Now considering that the original track came out in 1984, I would not call this an actual collaboration; a REMIX is more accurate. Otherwise we could call all remixes collaborations. And Tina Turner didn't actually work with him; she just let him work with her vocals from sixteen years ago. They have to be working together to actually be collaborating.

I am totally here for this. Love Kygo, and I LOVE when artists of our generation refresh a throwback like "What's Love Got To Do WIth It"! This won't compare to the original (duh), but I absolutely love it for what it is! :pumped:
