Yemen hunger crisis, the pandemic and how YOU can help

Hello everyone. I'm using this (and a couple of other) platforms to reach out to people and shed some light on the current situation our world is facing in the present. You're obviously all aware of the epidemic that we're all going through together. However, did you know that unlike most European, North American countries, and Australia and New Zealand, other countries are facing humanitarian crisis as we've never seen before in written history. 

A lot of countries are suffering from the lack of medical supplies, as well as hygienic products which is making their recovery from COVID-19 much, MUCH slower, if not putting it to a halt. 

Probably the country that's having it the worst is Yemen. Yemen is currently facing a hunger crisis so severe that 80% of its population is currently STARVING. I'm posting some of the photos below.

Why is this happening? 

Well, Yemen is currently having a couple of civil conflicts which closed nearly all of its ports. This country imports 90% of its food and now they barely have any. Unfortunately, COVID-19 reached them as well, and now we are witnessing a literal erasure of a whole nation in front of our noses. For some reason, media is not shedding enough light on the suffering of these people who desperately need help from fellow humans. 

BUT WE CAN HELP
On my free time, I work a lot with United Nations (as a part of their marketing campaign, I do this completely for free) trying to raise awareness on topics like these. UN has developed an applications called "Share the Meal." The point of it is to donate food to those who need it most at this point. The application will immediately tell you which countries are suffering from food shortage and ask whether you wish to donate.

The best thing about it is, IT'S EXTREMELY CHEAP. 

For only 2.80 USD/EUR per month, you can feed a person for seven days straight. And for only 40 cents, you can donate one meal, which is worth more than gold to those who are dying from hunger. 20 EUR/USD, for those who can afford, means donating 50 meals to those in need. I absolutely understand we're all going through difficulties and troubles during these very turbulent times, but I firmly believe it is our civil duty to be compassionate and help those who need us the most. It is one time where we can actually make a difference and help the way we would want others to help us if the tables were turned. Additionally, the UN will show you the photo of the person you helped in particular just to prove how much your donation means. 

Yemen is currently not listed in the application as the UN was forced to stop food supplying due to all the conflicts, but very soon, the situation will be resolved and Yemen will be back on the list. In the meantime, you can help feed the starving children in all the countries hit by food and COVID-19 crisis.

I am sorry for this very long article, I am just hoping that there are a lot of good people in this world who are willing to help. Even if one person from this website decides to donate as little as 40 cents, I will consider it a success.

When you said Yemen I immediately thought of this from Friends...

But seriously those pictures are extremely hard to look at and really put things into perspective.  No matter how bad your day may be you have to look for something good because there is always someone suffering more than you.  It also makes you realize that we are all just people and should be trying to help each other instead of working against each other.

Thanks for sharing. Stories like these always put the insane amount of privilege I have into perspective for me for like 5 minutes, and then I forget all about it. Right now, for example, I could very easily spend those 3 euros because that is literally nothing. But I'm hesitant because I'd rather spend them on some stupid online video game. Heck, if I wanted to, I could even go the 20 euro route, but I'm just too stingy. What is wrong with me? I'm so disgusted with myself and the fact that I'm even having second thoughts about this, but I can't help it. Can I even call myself a good person? Capitalism and materialism are a disease.

We have to help as much we can. It's important. People who give money to help others are not "kind" or have a big heart. No. It's normal and everyone must help each other, it's the minimum. We are all humans, all equal, no one is superior. It's really hard to accept that until today, many people still suffer from hunger. I'm really sad to see this...

This made me want to cry. I just downloaded the app and donated $3.50 to feed someone for a week. I also set a monthly reminder so that I could do it every month. Thank you for sharing! @BUWYGF I'm giving you 500 Exhale points

Unfortunately our world and and the system are far from fair its sad and painful to observe. But as long as there are kind a d selfless people there will always be hope! I am a firm believer in the good in people.

No need to be disgusted with yourself sweetie. Everyone more or less thinks the same way. For our brains, its easier to look the other way and ignore what seems to be a cruel reality.

Its understandable you'd rather spend money on yourself, after all, we're taught to put ourselves first.

It's easy to break through this though, if you want, donate a 40 cent meal I promise the feeling is elevating!

But thanks for this post!  Saying that x means = y meals is extremely effective, because people do realise how their money is spent, and they are more likely to help (hmm... between one McFlurry & helping a starving kid to eat properly for a week... > one McFlurry or giving 4$?) 

I've had a chapter about hunger in the world and Yemen is literally the only country of the region that is facing such a terrible situation, it's the one that depends the most on external helps & the food crisis is at its highest point... kinda crazy once you realise that such a country exists in the same zone as Oman, SA, UAE, from excessiveness to starvation... a third of the population is in desperate need for food, and yes, the medias are barely talking about this issue.

Yep you can donate in any currency really, the app converts it all automatically once it receives money from your credit/debit card regardless in which currency and yeah, its shocking to realize Yeken is surrounded by very rich countries that just stand and watch Zero compassion
