Revisiting MARTAGATE

Hi everyone,

I'd like to go back to the summer of 2018. To me it seems like it was just a few months ago, but crazy how much time has actually past. We are definitely in a different world now and to some extent stanning for a different Britney. 

If you're a new fan or you don't remember, when Britney left Vegas to do a small tour with her Piece of Me show, there was a string of rumors of people having bizarre and sad experiences on the meet and greets with her. Some of them say she would just turn around and stare at the wall, crying, refusing to speak. There was definitely fear in the fandom that something was not right in Britland. Then, one former fan instantly became iconic, when she recounted her experience of feeling abused and humiliated by the Queen B herself. 

Marta's story

According to this fan, Britney was freaked out at being touched by her. Britney allegedly told her bodyguard to get rid of her in a cruel manner, and taunted/laughed at her as she walked her way out of the meet and greet. This video went viral, and suddenly a lot of more people reported similar underwhelming experiences with her as well. Now, I know that Spanish people are more touchy feely/affectionate than most, and that there are two sides to every story. But what exactly do you think was going on during this era? Britney shortly thereafter was (allegedly) institutionalized against her will, and Domination was put on hold indefinitely even though she SEEMED to be really into the preparation of that new era. 

Still, while this was the only reported incident of Britney being rude to a fan, many others reported that she seemed sad, upset, depressed, and erratic as well. There's even video of Britney breaking into tears on the last night of the Piece of Me tour.

At the time I thought she was going through the motions due to the show ending, and then afterwards I assumed it was due to somebody's colon malfunctioning. Only I don't think that was it, as that was just a situation used to justify the cancelling of the Domination show. (Allegedly allegedly allegedly.)

Is there any speculation as to what was going on with her at this moment? Do you think that this is the moment she decided she was going to quit? Do you think that even during the rehearsal of Domination, she already knew she was going to not do it on some level and was on the brink of making that decision? I think this period of her life should be looked at more, as it really was a huge turning point and has led us to where we are today.

So this is a moment in her life that I feel (if what Marta alleged happened is true) needs to be looked at because it literally began a chain of events that led us where we are today as a fandom. 

People often mention her having a second, less known about breakdown in 2010 that was covered up well. I only heard about this second breakdown last year. I would like to have a discussion of what may have been happening in her life that caused her to behave this way.

Well, go ahead. But it's not like we didn't have hundreds of pages discussing everything that happened back then, and even more last year.

We may say whatever about Britney, but if you see Marta's videos and don't think there's something wrong with her, there isn't much that can be discussed. She clearly did something very wrong for Britney to react like that (if that even happened the way she tells it). Britney took pictures with other fans that date and they even touched her (in an appropriate way) and she seemed fine, so again, Marta was guilty of something she won't  accept.

And I don't think that was the trigger of any chain of events, but more of a consequence; clearly something was happening in her personal life since before that incident (thus why she seemed so emotional in M&G's and onstage), but the only thing we do know is that at the time it was when Kevin asked for more money.

Well regardless on whether its been discussed or not, I am relatively new to this forum and I was not there for the discussion. I also think there may be some newer people on this forum who may not have been around to discuss it either. I think its a more interesting discussion than the random hatred spewed towards her instagram account. 

I did give Britney the benefit of the doubt. I do feel like Marta was probably a hot mess. But actually come to think of it, Trisha Paytas also posted a video years ago having a similar experience where she said she thought Britney was disgusted at the sight of her and she didn't have a very good time either...I just think its worth discussing if the rumor is true and Britney really does just want to quit it all. I don't fault or blame Britney if she's being forced to do these M&G...

That is a good point about Kevin asking for more money. I had forgotten about that detail.

I Think The POM Tour Was The Straw That Broke The Camels Back.   Britney Needed A Break,  Constantly Doing Physical Work Can Do A  Ton Of Damage Of A Persons Mental/Physical Health.  That’s Probably Why She Was Depressed.  And When It Comes To Her Being Excited For The New Show, It’s Probably Because She Had A Small Break Between The Blackpool Show And The Dom Announcement.

Thing is, both these girls seem to not know Britney at all, like, they're completely unaware of how Britney is nowadays, which is outstanding considering they're supposedly fans. Of course that's not reason for Britney to be rude, but that's my point again, everyone perceives situations differently, and it's not coincidence that precisely the people that have the most overwhelming personalities are the most vocal about this kind of stuff. Obviously Marta was the worst. However there were many, many other stories about people that had a great experience with her, throughout all of POM and the tours, and that if any they complained about how rushed it was the time they gave them, but that's because of how much they scare them before getting to Britney. Yet the brave enough that dared to ask her a question or for a hug, or a specific pose, they did so despite the previous warning of no talking, no touching, etc.

 

Again, go ahead, if there's people that as you say weren't here back then, and want to discuss it, I just don't see the need to bring a topic like this back, because there isn't much to discuss, and the whole incident isn't very pleasing to remember, at least for me    I mean, it IS funny when you think about Marta's meltdown, but it's not funny when Britney starts to get accused as if she was an evil person that just took her out of the M&G for no reason, or that she was so mentally unstable that she was just acting erratically like that.

I think she was exhausted, maybe on different meds? sorta explains her erratic hand dance moves.

I met her 2 nights before Marta met her and even though britney was lovely (and by lovely it was still a very rushed, disappointing meet and greet) larry was a ****. No change there tho.

She just seemed a little off. When those in front of me were finished meeting her practically everyone expressed disappointment when leaving to me. That was the first night at the 02, cant imagine the meet and greets the 3rd nighters ie marta had lol.

Yeah, I honestly don't know what it could be either. For me more than anything, the thing I find the most unnerving is her speaking voice now. It just sounds completely different in her IG videos. I am grateful for her though that she has been able to lay low these past couple of months. I hope she's learning what makes her happy. 

I'm actually not surprised Larry was a ****. I am hoping she has truly sacked him for good. What did he do, exactly? And what was your interaction with Brit like? Sorry if you've already posted before. Your M&G picture looks great! 

And lol that seems pretty bleak/ominous regarding the disappointed people. Honestly, I hope those sort of encounters haven't permanently soured the people who would pay for a M&G from ever doing it again. I hope one day Britney is fully empowered and on her A-game and ready to deliver experiences she's comfortable with.

I think Trisha may have deleted her video, because I can't find it anywhere. But I do remember feeling bad for her. I know she's a lot, but she's a true Stan through and through. Her story made me feel bad for her because she didn't seem to enjoy the show afterwards. But I also know she's still obsessed with her to this day lol. And yeah I agree with you, whenever I read the descriptions of the behind the scenes tour, I feel like they make it too intense for those participating. For me personally, it wouldn't be worth it just for a 30 second interaction. I don't do well with anxiety haha. I just want to be clear I never accused Britney of being an evil person. I think she's a sweetheart. But her personal life is so mysterious and enigmatic and full of drama. I'll keep my fingers crossed for that good tell-all, ghost-written by Myah Marie...
