td.jpg.c5e0995cbe31775a8cc6ef4ceb7250d8.jpgOn June 12, 2015, Giorgio Moroder released his fourteenth studio album Déjà Vu. It featured collaborations with Sia (Déjà Vu), Kylie Minogue (Right Here, Right Now), but most importantly, Britney Spears (Tom's Diner).

Britney's song had already leaked around the time Pretty Girls came out (early 2015), but it was June 12 when it was officially released on Giorgio's fourteenth studio album Déjà Vu. The original song came out in 1987 by Suzanne Vega, and it was later covered in 1990 by DNA.

An audio clip for the song was uploaded on Britney's official YouTube channel.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Moroder teased the “Tom’s Diner” cover, noting that it was Spears’ idea: “Britney came to my management company with the idea to do a particular song with me, which was interesting because usually it’s the other way, with the producer offering a song”. “I hope she finds the time to do the little bridge—it’s just eight bars,” he told Official Charts, before the song was completed. “I’m going to meet her soon and tell her!” (we know how that ended :whatitellu: )

About the cover, Suzanne Vega said: “I have to say, I was surprised. It came right on the heels of Fall Out Boy [who sampled the song on “Centuries”]. I thought, ‘That’s great that Britney Spears wants to do this.’ I was impressed because it was her idea and … it’s showing maturity in her career choices.”

The reason why I forgot about its anniversary, it's because the single wouldn't properly come out until October, which was accompanied by two remixes of the song. Sadly, it never received the video treatment besides a lyric video. :yaknow:

On July 2019,  Britney Spears acknowledged the song on an Instagram post:

To which Giorgio Moroder replied by sharing a new version of the song
