Remembering NYLA

I'm curious if anyone had the chance to check out Britney's iconic restaurant NYLA in 2002. I never had the pleasure, myself but I always appreciated the colorfully stylized logo. Did any of you have the privilege of personally experiencing this brief moment in history? Perhaps you have memorabilia from the short-lived NYLA era? Would love to hear about it!

To refresh your memory, Britney Spears joined two of her favorite places into one restaurant when she opened NYLA at the Dylan Hotel in Midtown Manhattan. The concept, which blended cuisine from New York and Louisiana, was abandoned in 2002 after just six months of service. It was reported that the restaurant racked up some health code violations and significant debt which led to Britney cutting ties with the restaurant.

RIP NYLA. Gone too soon.

NYLA is iconic because it's part of the Britney era. It opened, like, a month before the Dream Within a Dream tour wrapped up.

I do not understand why you would start a company and give up so quickly?  Unless

It truly was iconic. That was such a significant time in her career. The restaurant launch with the step and repeat was all over the blogs. I feel like it would be fun to do a version of NYLA in Vegas. A Britney restaurant would make sense at Planet Hollywood and would probably do well with all the traffic from her residency.

A question, Larry was behind at this restaurant? In this restaurant, was her father the cook along with another cook in her town? Her father has poor hygiene cooking, you only have to see the documentary "For the Record" when he is cooking and I understand perfectly that the vet will close the restaurant.

What saddens me is I live in NYC and I didn't bother to visit it. Idk why. I regret never visiting

Yeah wasn’t Jamie one of the cooks? Maybe the cheese grits weren’t good. Anyone know if Justin’s southern inspired NYC restaurant is still in business?  I know Jessica Beils  family themed restaurant went under

Restaurants are one of the worst money drains for celebs. Unless you're a super big name chef, chances are it won't last. 

Mark Walhberg is in the news at the moment because he's claiming government assist on all his restaurants. Gordon Ramsey too.

I sometimes forget this was ever a thing. And my ******* thought the 'LA' in the name stood for Los Angeles, but it was actually Louisiana

It was gorgeous but the food was AWFUL. I mean bad. I made my parents take me when it first opened and it was not a good experience. That was definitely one of the worst business moves her team ever made.

But tbh I don’t blame ya  but I mean you should have obviously realized that it was LOUsiana ()  since that’s where she’s from. Britney doesn’t even suit with the Los Angeles lifestyle, let alone being born there

I once read that VERY FEW restaurants pass the test of time... Like, it's a really tough business money wise, and because of all the competition and high standards in every aspect.

I thought he was a partner with Ashton Kutcher for that dim sum place in LA?  There was an article trashing Britney for her failed attempt and praised Justin for being a better business man.
