What was really awful was the lack of energy; what i really liked about Britney from the very start of her career was how energetic and full of life she was.

@Blackout2006 Yeah but the performance is still far better than the last 10 years performances.

It's maybe not the #1 of all of her VMAs, it's obvious, but we have to count that 2007 breakdown, it's unbelievable to see Britney performing after a few months the same year.

The lip sync is even better compared to some of her performances post 2013 essentially. Well her outfits is not the best, and the energy wasn't there but still enough after what she ran into in 2007.

The song Gimme More is exactly describing this performance: everyone want more, everyone expect more, so, she will give them more with the Circus comeback!!

I still believe the performance is better than anything that we see nowadays on average, but that doesn't mean it's good. That just means performers get worse each time (in the majority, I know there are exceptions). 

For Britney standards, it was pretty bad. She looks out of it, and anyone that fails to see that, needs to question themselves how much they really care about Britney.

Ok...i hear you on your points, but i can’t get over how I signed up for cable so i could get MTV and watch her “comeback” to the VMA’s . My boyfriend at the time asked me “WTF was that?” and I couldn’t explain. As a Britney fan i was concerned and disappointed  but I have grown to accept that its the start of one of the best comeback stories EVER

YES!  I Love This Performance, I Think It’s Her Best VMA Performance.  Her Face Looked Flawless, Her Body...Was Ok, But Besides That She Served.  It Was Sloppy But So Iconic And The “Trouble” Segment Is My Favourite Part About It.  This Performance Deserves To Be Named As One Of Her Greatest.

I Understand all the things she went through 2007, but this make it worse, she was like trying to end with her carreer, i understand how anoying is living with papz but gurl if u live in california how could you expect another thing? and the rumors say that she talked with Justin before the performance , because her eyes was contrasted with contact glasses so you can't see her eyes, its clearly she was on BIG Drama Moment through that time.

If they gave her a more flattering outfit (I loved the bikini though) and she kept her long extensions (she was wearing them days before the actual performance) when she went to Vegas, this would have been more well received.

The expectations were also up high and you can tell she was hella nervous.
