What are your thoughts on the #BlackLivesMatter movement, the protests, the riots, everything going in on the US right now?

@JordanMiller, Im sure this is not the vibe you intended for this thread or for exhale in general. Doesnt warrant a response, I just think it deserves to be called out since we've seen countless identical posts by this same user in multiple threads with the same disrespectful, counterproductive attitude.

Discussions like these are hard. I don't want to close topics related to this because I don't think that's productive, but I also do not want members pointing fingers at anyone.

I have had no problem issuing warning points since my Rules post went live on Sunday. If I see blatant disrespect / harassment, I issue a warning. If that suspends the user, then so be it. That's the best I can do right now while I still navigate how to be a leader in a community that feels divided, much like the nation and world is.

Fair enough.

You may have legitimate grievances, but when you start discounting others' grievances and claim that your grievances are superior or more important, you push tons of people away. Which is part of the reason why "protests" like these recieve so much pushback.

Before I go ahead pls note that in no way was I trying to undermine the oppression that Jewish people have wrongly dealt with and continue to this day deal with. In no way was I trying to say this is more important than The oppression Jewish people have gotten. I love to study history and you probably have way more knowledge and understanding on the issue but I do know what Jewish people have been through. But I won’t lie, I don’t believe the current issues that are going on in this country surround white people(talking about the whole movement, what’s going on etc) Which is why I’m confused by this all lives matter slogan. I personally do believe the rampant racism which this country was built on is one of the highest issues in this country and needs to be brought to light cause there’s serious work to be done. It saddens me that people feel pushed away from this movement over a slogan or the fact that the racism is put at A high level and reason. But that’s just the way it is. That’s the way it always has been in the u.s, since they came here and killed off native Americans and to when the slaves were brought here and constant oppression Against black people and minority groups for the past so many centuries

I dont necessarily agree with all your points but youre respectful and seem to be genuinely interested in gaining knowledge and understanding. Its very late here and Im not in the head to respond more on point atm, but I would like to commend you for your respectfulness and open-mindedness.

There are serious riots at the shopping malls just miles from my home. People blew up a bus a few cities over from me. I don’t know if it’s gonna be safe to drive to work in a couple of days. I’m kinda getting a bit scared and coming to Exhale makes things feel more fun for a while. I’m glad there’s no fighting here.

I wrote a lengthy reply to someone on this thread who quite honestly made me laugh because said person started at point A and didn't realize what they had written by point Z.

Instead, I'm just going to write:

Racism exists in many forms. Beware of people employing immature ego defenses to justify their inner beliefs (:

Jordan even gave me a warning for calling out the subtle racism on here. From his "content curators", especially. So disappointing.

I'm still calling out this site on twitter tho.:sickofu:

America was built on slavery. It's been profiteering off of the suffering of people around the world, but with the most victimized being Black and Brown people outside the US and INSIDE the US.

Black people in the US have suffered THE MOST and for a long time. Add this with the media manipulation by corporate news tha are biased in favor of the police and with minimal voice given to those with VERY LEGIT GRIEVANCES, yep...all the rioting are JUSTIFIED.

I can't at some people being more concerned about shops looted and buildings burning vs the bloodshed of the victims of police brutality ESPECIALLY the bloods of black people.

All Cops Are *******s.

Y'all should've already learned this from the origins of the Gay Pride Marches, the Stonewall riots.

I'm sorry if white people are being uncomfortable, but imagine the Disproportionate violence received by the African American community.

That's that.

Black Lives Matter is a way to RAISE AWARENESS That black lives matter, because Black Lives are UNDERVALUED.

The response "All lives Matter" by Right-wing ********* are a reply to this with the implkcit message of "What about Us, what about Us" ignoring that they've been privileged and have been benfitting from this for a long time. They're trying to undermine the message of Black lives matter, which is  "Black lives have been suffering for a long time. It's time start recognizing that Black Lives matter"

I'd love it if you could refrain from throwing the word "racism" around so easily. That's a very serious accusation. :smokney2: Being ignorant, insensitive, etc. =/= racist. And I'm not trying to be condescending here. It's just that... When you operate in extremes, you lose all validity in most people's eyes even if a lot of your points are completely sound and reasonable otherwise. :heresthetea:

Nah, call out racism for what it is... RACISM.

So much more concern for being Called a racist instead of the racism itself.

Also, if you were sympathetic to Britney when she's being mischaracterized by TMZ and the media negatively, then you should be sympathetic when CNN and MSNBC and Fox news Frames #BLM and the protests as unneedlessly violent when in fact, the Police and Racism are Evil.

Concerned with burning Buildings and lootings but not Black lives or police brutality?

I believe that the protest is necessary, especially after all the efforts black people have done make their voice heard. It is a shame that there are people purposely making black people look bad in the wake of the event. While signing a petition and donating money is a start, I feel like I can do more as a person - but I am not sure what comes next. Supporting black owned businesses, having that conversation with family and friends, what else can I do?

If any one has other resources to learn more about the black lives matter movement, I would greatly appreciate the help.

This is what frustrates me about this whole thing is, it could have been dealt in a peaceful manor, Martin Luther King kept telling the protestors to not fight back and when police escorted Rosa Parks off the bus, they were so weirded out how polite she was and didn’t resist.

People have been cooped up at home for so long  and are letting their rage out. People are forgetting we are still in a pandemic! I’m asian and I have encounter racism in my lifetime but I always choose to take the high road.

Lol at a poster disliking this.

Tell me what's more important, White people's fear of being called racist, or the hundreds of years of racism that still continues to this day?

I called him out. I've been a member for years. But since he decided to include politics on this Pop Music forum, he has been policing POC and telling us to play nice, be respectful and stop " fighting". I fight for my life everyday. I'll be d.amed if I'm paying a white man to be on this site and for him to to dictate how I should feel as a person of color, as a person who is discriminated for my skin color. It's hard enough being a POC but on top of that gay...Exhale was my escape. Not anymore. Jordan is a dictator here. His views or no way. He literally said he would give points if someone was being in his eyes disrespectful. We are disrespectful if we, colored people, speak our truth and try conveying this to others.
