What Songs From Each Album Could Have Been Hits?

Recommended Posts

I always like to go back in Britney’s discography and look at the songs that could’ve been serious hit singles. Of course, the good queen Britney Jean has MANY hits under belt but she could’ve had more (mostly during the circus and femme fatale era - I hate her team ) So, what songs from each album (Obviously ones that weren’t singles)  do you think had single potential and could’ve  have been hits for Britney Jean Spears?Untitled.jpg.0447b753fd23c4eac059ff12c3c5bbe2.jpg

Baby One More Time- I Will Be There would have smashed in the 90s. Easily could’ve been her 5th top 40 from Baby.

Oops! - What U See, Where Are You Now (which I think is one of her best songs ever)

Britney - Lonely, Bombastic Love, What Its Like To Be Me

In The Zone - Breathe On Me is the only right answer. This song is 17 years old and still sounds fresh. I don’t know how it would have done on the charts during the time because of it’s more adult nature but it’s one of Britney’s greatest songs ever.

Blackout - I would have LOVED to see Heaven On earth become a single... not only because I think it would have done well but also because Britney loves it.

Circus - Unusual You should’ve been the 4th single. I could’ve seen it becoming the third top 10 off circus. Radar should’ve been the fifth single ( I know she had a contract to make it a single but she should’ve waited for single #5 and released “3” in the early spring of 2010)

Femme Fatale - Inside Out. I easily could’ve seen this being Britney’s 6th #1. It’s a true shame it never happened. Again, this should’ve been single #4 while criminal being single #5.

Britney Jean- Oh Britney Jean. I truly believe now that Work ***** was the only true single worthy song on the record. Regardless of it was myah singing or Britney ... there was no true “single “ on the record (minus work ***** - which thank god we got because the era would have been terrible without it )

Glory - Glory makes me very sad. It had the potential to be on Circus and Femme Fatales level. I truly think they should’ve let her take off 2016 to focus on her music and not Vegas. She had truly had the ball in her court. The dancing was on fire, she seemed really excited about her music, Glory was the first true album she was passionate about since in the zone/blackout. It’s a shame. I mean I’m happy we got the album but it could’ve been a real rejuvenating moment in her career. REGARDLESS- I think she should’ve went Love Me Down and Change your mind as singles.

what do y’all think? Sound off

Breathe On Me would’ve been a hit but not in 2003/2004. There was a lot of backlash by the GP because of Onyx and how Britney was too raunchy. There were a lot of prudes lol. Plus pop /hip hop songs were a thing. As much as I love Breathe On Me, I don’t think it would’ve been a hit during that time. Maybe during some other era cause like you said it still sounds fresh today.

BOMT: I Will Be There would’ve done well

OIDIA: Don’t Go Knocking On My Door, What U See Is What U Get, Can’t Make You Love Me or maybe even Where Are You Now.

Britney: Lonely & Cinderella. What It’s Like to be Me. Maybe even I Run Away. The rest already got released lol

ITZ: I Got That Boom Boom. I don’t like the track much but this was a popular sound back then. BOM I would’ve have loved just to have a video but I don’t think it would have been a hit. The rest of the album is too weak (except for TOMH but no way the GP would react well to that back then)

Blackout: Literally every song if she was able to perform and promote well.

Circus: Kill the Lights & Unusual You. I think at the time the GP would have loved something emotional by Britney.

Femme Fatale: Inside Out maybe just because of the references. It’s still too mid tempo for Britney to become a hit. Drop Dead Beautiful and Big Fat Bass would’ve probably done well cause you know... the GP loves this ****

Britney Jean: Alien. The rest is bad. I mean I like Don’t Cry but it’s not single material

Glory: Boy, make me was the wrong lead single. Britney needs to start with a banger.  Better, Love Me Down, Do You Wanna Come Over, Change Your Mind. And end the era with Just Luv Me or Man on the Moon

“Trip to your heart” such a missed opportunity. I remember I went to my first club in 2012 and ask that they play a Britney song and they played TTYH and it was so euphoric and the crowd went bananas. Such an elegant song and so European. I’ll never forgive her team for not letting that be the 4th single

With a Timbaland remix and a proper Justin Timberlake featuring

That would really elevate her rep and her sound to the R&B and Hip Hop community - which was the target audience for the era. :barbie:

To be quite honest... Until britney jean happened they've always been on point with the singles choice. Maybe they should have swapped the order (Toxic should have been single 1 from Itz, biggest mistake ever)... But her albums are literally pop gems which, unlike most of her fellow colleagues, are mainly composed by 3-4 hit tracks, 7-8 strong tracks and a couple fillers.

Most of the tracks in Britney records are strong but not hits, mainly because they're experimental with sounds and lyrics.

Touch of my hand is even better than matm, but I don't think it would have performed better on the charts because of its theme. Early morning is a monster track, but it was a little too experimental for people at the time. Her albums are golden, and critics love them for that.

For Bomt and Oops the strongest tracks have been released. Maybe Autumn Goodbye and Can't make you love me could have had some impact.

Britney had Before The Goodbye which could have destroyed the charts and maybe Lonely, but again the latter was a little too ahead of its time.

In the zone and Blackout are the clearest example. Breathe On Me and Touch of my hand are high, high, HIGH quality pop songs. But they were too risky. Same for Early Morning or Showdown. Freakshow and Get Naked are among her best songs ever, their production value it's literally insane, but again piece of me and gimme more were definitely more "chart toppers" songs.

Circus situation is slightly different, because it's a brilliant, sugar coated, simpler pop record - Unusual You, Amnesia, Kill The Lights, Shattered Glass could have easily topped the charts. But what about Blur and Mannequin? They're insanely good songs, absolutely amazing, but too risky.

BJ... I'd leave the Myah thing aside, for once. It's a weak record, maybe Passenger and it should be easy could have had some radio success.

Glory had plenty of potential hits though. Change your mind (with a Spanish featuring, unfortunately) could have been an almost sure chart topper. Man on the moon, Come Over, Clumsy, Better, Just Love Me, Love Me down all had potential.

Looking back in retrospective, compared to other pop singers, her discography is really, really good. If you go beyond the singles, she really has immaculate pop gems. Maybe that's why she lasted that long and was able to gain such a huge fanbase. And let's not forget that she's every producer dream. Up until bj, they were literally fighting to be on her records and gave her their best tracks.
