Britney planned to start a production company with her manager as early as 1999. It was called "B&L; Productions" and plans for this lasted until 2003. Britney also had her own production company known as "Britney Spears Productions". She planned to sign at least two artists, R&B; singer JoJo and country singer Kristy Lee Cook.

JoJo auditioned for Britney when she was eight years old. Britney wanted to sign her but did not due to her being too young at the time.

"Britney Spears had an ear for real talent even when she was just starting out - she almost signed teen pop sensation JoJo when the newcomer was only eight-years-old. JoJo met Spears backstage at a concert in the months after the 1999 release of her debut single ...'Baby One More Time,' and impressed the then-teenage Spears with her talents. The "Leave (Get Out)" singer recalls, "I went backstage at a concert she was doing and her lawyer called me up and offered me a production deal with a company that she was starting." JoJo had to turn her idol down because she felt too young to sign a contract - but she knew Spears was destined for greatness. She adds, "She was definitely a rising star... She had that thing about her, I guess." (July 13, 2004)

"No, when I was 8 I received tickets to go to a free concert. A woman recognized me from the day before on TV and asked me backstage. So I sang in front of everyone backstage. Britney's bodyguard saw this and said, 'sing for Britney'. Which I did. She told her assistant to give me her card. It had Larry Rudolph's name on it, her old manager. Supposedly Britney was starting her own company and wanted me to be her first new artist." (March 19, 2008)

Is this real? Her debut single came out in 1998, not 1999. I honestly doubt she would be starting a production company that early in her career also. It's kinda odd as Britney was just a young star staring off herself, but I guess she said it happened so...

I don't know what happen to her, the same like melody from spain, linsay , ashlee simpson, hilary duff and ashley tisdale. they try to comeback every year and they can't , are so talentfull but its like their have a block out

It’s hard for anyone to comeback. Social media has kinda exposed everyone to all kinds of talent and look, even you tubers can have a following/fans. Teens used to only have these girls to idolize but now with beauty gurus and khardashians being more of the teenage norm nowadays. The trend is shifted to “beauty” hence why everyone and their mothers are coming out with pallets to “relate” to this generation.

She had already become a huge brand after the release of her debut song and debut album. She was there in every commercials, asked to endorse products, Barbie dolls of her so she already earned a status singers usually take 6 years to get, within just a year.

Thank god Britney didn’t tell her to Leave (Get Out) when she came backstage.

Seriously, though, that’s crazy that Britney already had intentions to start a production company at such a young age and so early in her career.  I can’t believe I didn’t know this. :OMGney:

Two of my faves for sure.
What I find interesting is that both these singers (despite going through pop radio to find success) is that they had soulful/classic R&B roots that kind of got their foot through the door when looking to get signed. Now of course, their careers don't parallel at all, Britney being the superstar she is now and JoJo going though the hardship with her record label years ago.
I am glad that JoJo got to have her comeback and has shifted her sound back to that soulful/R&B that she clearly connect with more than the pop sound her first record labels wanted her to make.
