No matter how many safeguards are in place, hackers tend to find the cracks.

Celebrity law firm Grubman Shire Meiselas & Sacks, who represents some major super stars, including Lady Gaga, Madonna, Nicki Minaj, Bruce Springsteen and many more, are the subject of a major data breach.

The hackers used a ransomware dubbed “REvil” on the firm and are asking for $21 million in exchange for the 756 gigabytes of stolen data.

The law firm allegedly hired cyber-extortion specialists to fight back. That pissed the hackers off, so they released a 2.4 gigabyte batch of files on Thursday.

“It seems that GRUBMANS doesn’t care about their clients or it was a mistake to hire a recovery company to help in the negotiations,” the hackers wrote. “As we promised, we [published] the first part of the data because the time is up.”

They added: “The ransom is now $42 million.”

The firm is still refusing to pay any ransom.

In that new leak includes how much Gaga is making off her songwriting royalties towards songs she contributed and co-wrote for A Star Is Born

From Rolling Stone:

Quote

The “first part” was a 2.4-gigabyte folder including legal work the law firm did for Lady Gaga: contracts sent to producers, collaborators, and members of her touring ensemble; promotional agreements; expense sheets; confidentiality agreement forms; performer agreements; reimbursement forms for the artist Jeff Koons; a handful of promotional photos; and reams of tedious paperwork one would expect to find in the database of an entertainment law firm. (A representative for Lady Gaga declined to comment.)

This bit of information in my opinion is actually very interesting and makes Gaga look good. Gaga takes the lion's share of music publishing royalties.

  • "Shallow" 40%
  • Music to my Eyes 40%
  • Look What I Found 25%
  • Always Remember us This Way 25%
  • I Don't Know What Love Is 60%
  • Hair Body Face 50%
  • Before I Cry 70%

The major take away is this is a gross invasion of privacy, and certainly doesn't help that I'm posting about it, but also the damage is done.

We love a pop star who owns her stuff. We been knew, but she's set for life!

Thoughts on the data breach? Thoughts on Gaga's share?

How much she owns a song is not a major invasion of privacy, like a sextape leaking or someone's private messages.

I am sure she will sleep fine. :tbh:

Can those same hackers go hack into whichever database Britneys demos, album cuts and behind the scene footage are being stored? :orly:

This though. I would DIE to get some more info about either the original FF concept or Original Doll.

Her legal papers must be soooooooo interesting since many projects were cancelled or unreleased. There's so much unknown!

Oh honey, we don't even need to hack them. We just have to pretend to be her manager. :uknowit:

Spoiler

remember somebody tricked her team to send them unreleased tracks
