Verified Popular Post BrianFriedman Posted May 14, 2020 Verified Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2020 Hello Exhale! This is director, producer, and choreographer Brian Friedman. I choreographed a bunch of iconic routines for Britney (Overprotected, Toxic, Hold It Against Me, Till The World Ends, Slave 4 U). On Thursday, May 14 at 1:30 pm PST I'm going to host an AMA - which stands for ask me anything - here on Exhale. Go ahead and start leaving your questions now and I'll be back to answer them live on Thursday. Also, I'd like to send you a special invite to a livestream class I'm personally hosting this Saturday where I'll be teaching the Slave 4 U choreo. I'd love to have you guys. This choreography has been treasured by many for nearly two decades since Wade Robson and I created it. For the first time ever, I will be stepping into your homes to show you how it’s done! A portion of the proceeds for this event will be donated to Unicef USA to help our healthcare workers who are putting their lives in jeopardy to save the lives of so many. They are truly our superheroes. Get your tickets here! Looking forward to talking with you all. Leave your questions now and I'll be back soon to respond. --------------------------- Update: Brian Friedman's AMA responses below. Popular Post PokemonSpears
How did you end up working with Britney? How did you come up with the iconic breakdown of Slave (or actually the whole choreo)? There's some slight changes across the different live performances of Slave from back in the day, depending on the TV show or the awards show, even the music video lacks the last part of the choreo, were those changes planned in advance, or why was it even different from performance to performance? What do you think or how do you explain that Britney made the choreography look so easy and natural ? Did she have any trouble while learning the moves? Did she have any input on the choreographies, like adding or removing something? As a dancer and choreographer, what do you think about the evolution of Britney's dancing style? Do you think she could pull off the original Slave choreo nowadays? 13 2 Link to comment
jennyj
Why did you Brian and Britney part ways? Was it Britney's choice, Brian's choice, or someone on her team's choice? (sorry I know that's a deep question lol) I'm not really a fan of his spastic choreography, but he did give Britney some of her best iconic choreography by taking it and adding her own flavour to it. 3 1 Link to comment
AmorProhibido
I've heard from several different sources that Mayte Garcia, Prince's first wife, played a part in the creation of the Slave 4 U choreo. Is this true at all? If so, how much of a role did she play in it? 1 Link to comment
CripplerCrossface
Many says that since the comeback she dance better during rehearsals than on stage. Do you agree with that? And, in that case, why do you think it is the cause of that? 3 2 Link to comment
FreeAsMyHair
Did Britney ever danced to the song Rebellion with you or did she talked about it with you? 1 4 1 Link to comment
Hungry Hun
2 questions: 1 - I have a friend of a friend who would lke to ask you how was the process to create the HIAM choreo. Did you had a concept in mind? Did you first considered what Britney could do at the time and how her body moved, or you created the dancers first and then adapated for her. 2 - Would you ever work with Britney again if there's is an oportunity? I admire your work a lot, not only what you have done for Britney but in its entirity. You show that theres a lot of integrity on what you do, its art. 5 Link to comment
