We need to do something about Britney in the UK...

I just wanted to have a look and see where 'Glory' was holding up on the UK iTunes charts

Low and behold it was nowhere to be seen.

Heck, Britney doesn't make an appearance on the Pop Chart until we get right to the bottom, and it's with 'CIRCUS'

It's sad because to me it feels like Britney is very much a celebrated and loved character in the USA, and here she has no real relevance anymore despite being one of the most famous and talked about people from probably 1999-2009.

hmmm what can we do folks? I want to see that new album art up there!!

We been knew.

The UK has clowned Britney's most artistic record, In The Zone, when they slept on it during it's opening week that it debuted at a measly #13. Like, where we're y'all on the week November 12, 2003 cause I don't remember having Corona and being in quarantine during that week. :lessons:

When the album gave them three (3) UK #1s -including Me Against the Music which was already a number hit before the album even came out. :tiffdrink:

An album that featured a #1 single in the UK featuring the most successful female artist in UK chart history. :mattafact:

Doesn't make any sense, does it. :imacat:

It’s not like iTunes matters that much in the grand scheme of things. The UK is actually one of her strongest markets at the moment. “The Singles Collection” is always charting on the official albums chart and just yesterday they updated Oops sales

So it’s 772k copies SPS. The last time it was updated was in December and it was at 707k SPS, so it has sold roughly 65k in just 5 months

Ikr, I assume she was a singles artist there, the "singles force"

From 1999 to 2008 she had 16 Top5 singles there, 16!! Not Top10 but Top5!!

After 2008 she hadn't Top5 hits there anymore besides Scream&Shout, and that's just sad. See that drastic difference?

She never recovered after the X Factor performance. Sadly. There was so much hype and excitement leading up to it and then people were like nah fam...and she completely fell of the scene.

Most of UK GP (speaking generally) only know of womanizer, scream and shout and the odd few know of 3. Like whenever I speak to to UK people about Brinny they always ask me what happened to her and when she's gonna have a comeback and I'm like homegirl has 3 studio albums, 2/3 worldwide tour and huge Vegas residency.

Plus BBC Radio 1 shafted her as she's not 'cool' and 'young' enough which is what they did to Madge.

Was that X Factor performance received that badly in the UK? Because although the UK was never her biggest market in terms of album sales she was a singles force up till Circus era, but after that you guys completely dropped her lol. Well at least her tours always do very well over there

Sadly, yes. They were savage and quite hard on her. The buzz and hype leading up to the performance was crazy. She was literally everywhere in the week leading up. This was her first UK performance since Primeney promoting ITZ.  And then everyone was just under-whelmed. I think people were either expecting an incredible high energy, show stopping performance that echoed Primeney or a car crash trainwreck performance like the Vma 07and it was kinda just kinda low key. I for one, enjoyed it

James Corden immediately bashed her for lipsynching in the after show and then the media followed suit. She was criticised for lippping, lack of dancing, not interacting with the contestants like Mariah and Beyonce did etc.

This video pretty much sums up the UK's opinion on the performance and what the media was saying at the time (trigger warning there are some vile insensitive reference to her breakdown)

Ugh what a shame. I actually liked the performance (it’s my 2nd favorite performance from that Womanizer promo tour after the one in Germany). I mean her UK stats were so impressive at that point: all her singles from BOMT up till IUSA had charted inside the top 20, Radar was her first single to miss it. I’m surprised how well POM tour did considering everything, I mean she performed at 7 arena shows and apparently there was enough demand to do some stadiums dates. I guess despite her reputation being damaged she can still sell off nostalgia

UK Spotify doesn't even have the new glory album cover because they've only got the deluxe version on there :tiffeyeroll:

Sometimes I kinda wish I wasnt a UK fan because any effort I make in anything from free Britney to justice for glory is wasted on a population that thinks Brittany Spears last single was Toxic :crying1:

I was also underwhelmed when she started performing Womanizer over seas. We all were so don’t lie :truthtea: I was really scared for her because people started saying how she didn’t have ‘it’ anymore :yesokay:

I do feel that she lost fans after Circus but they still support her old stuff :mattafact:

Don’t let the fact she has never had a #1 album here fool you guys lol

My school friends always knew who she when I mentioned her (2/3 years ago).

She is still big and I remember Pretty Girls going like #16 with no promo and a release like a month after the rest of the world. And Work ***** too went #7 with no push at all. Glory’s singles flopped because that type of music and vibe isn’t really popular in the UK.

She has 5 #2 albums that were more successful than a lot of #1 albums, her never getting a #1 album here was lack of luck and lack of a push from her, Glory went #2 with no promo here, had she had some pre-recorded promo she could’ve had it.

Britney has always been much of a huger force outside of the states:typing:she has sold 133 million records outside of The US (70 million records in US) and was far more huge internationally:imhere: Yeah I agreed with @CrazyButItFeelsAllright And @Roxxy post, In the zone has anyways sold  my 600k records in the UK. Doesn’t that make ITZ a platinum record?:hillary: So it’s not as if Britney’s play should the Kylie’s Minogue of UK, she is itself very huge5 there:yaknow: Britney has sold over 14 million records in the UK (Album sales-5.1 million, Single sales- 9.4 million) counting greatest hits and single collections:tired:

Exactly, in fact until the Circus Era her singles were always bigger here than in America and still occasionally are. Of course I want her to have a #1 album here for her legacy but it won’t make or break her.
