5sos 5SOS fans start a petition after their new album misses the #1 spot on Billboard

5SOS' new album Calm won't take the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. They'll lose out to The Weeknd's new record, After Hours, which was #1 last week as well. Dua Lipa's new album Future Nostalgia is no competition for the band in the US. They also blocked her in the UK.

Weeknd clocks in with 134,905 units.

5SOS debuted with 132,349 (even with a touring bundle).

5SOS fans are MAD. They created a petition online demanding Billboard adjust the final sales tally. They claim 10k physical units were distributed prematurely, and Billboard is apparently not taking those into account. If they added the 10k, that would be enough to surpass The Weeknd and secure the top spot. Billboard is notorious for not budging. Resistance is futile.

The band's creative director fired up fans on Twitter. Here's what the now-deleted Tweet said:

LMAO. If they don't count 5SOS' premature sales, I am sure The Weeknd will also have premature sales he lost in his first week...it's not like Billboard makes up rules for 1 artist. Kinda pathetic how the fans are reacting to it, they should buy more physical copies and premium stream it on Spotify so their fave goes #1.

But yeah it's stupid because they want sales not from the debut week to count - which is unfair. And the comparison with Harry Styles is dumb because Harry did sell his album prematurely but Billboard didn't count those as well and he still won his debut week.

Unless you're American or like Rihanna mix in r&B and hip hop. You will get success. But pure pop like Dua Lipa generally gers shut out.

 

She'll be like Kylie in the US. Instead of Arenas. She can sell out the Coliseum in caesar's palace or Hammerstien Ballroom in New york. Welcome to cult status in the US. Get used to it Dua.
