he became "famous" a year or couple of years ago because he appeared in some random reality show (that actually increased MM views like crazy for a few days)

It was actually on Love Island that he revealed that he was in the Make Me video and as a result of him mentioning it viewers of the show flocked to YouTube to check it out and it got a big rise in views because of it.
