I know I do a lot of these "which song is better?" things but I genuinely love finding out why I seem to generally disagree with the most popular choice. I don't do it to be cool or anything like that but in regards to these 2 songs, I prefer Oops over Baby. I'm sure others will be like me and prefer this song but the majority seem to think Baby is better and I'm curious as to why you personally like that song more. I'm not looking for answers like "Baby changed the face of modern pop music and launched her career" etc because while I'm not denying its legacy and iconic impact, I'm more interested in the music itself, not the impact it had, if you get me. I know both songs are cheesy and to some, Oops is like a reject version of Baby, but I just prefer the sound of Oops. Of course Oops is iconic too and while people may say it is "over produced" and "the same as everything else that came out at the time", I believe it's a more interesting song. Same goes with the video. I absolutely don't hate Baby but of all the Britney songs in my playlist, it's one of the songs I listen to the least, whereas Oops is one I could listen to a couple of times a month and just have a blast singing along to. The instrumental of Oops stands out to me because it's not just the same sound on a loop throughout. I can actually sing along to it and have fun because the sounds are so fresh and unique. Back to the main version, I've never been one for inspecting lyrics too closely as I just prefer to sing to it if it's catchy and that's the thing; I think Oops is catchier than Baby. Maybe it's because I feel there's more of a story there and I can get into the song more easily, I don't know. It's so hard to explain. Another thing I like about it is that her voice sounds better than it does on Baby. YES, I know she uses her naturally deeper voice on Baby and Oops is probably more autotuned (I'm sure I'll get corrected), but it just fits the pop music thing so well. My favourite part in the whole song is from 2:49 when she elongates the "innocent". Random and weird I know but I love trying (and failing) to hit that note. I wish she'd do more of that because it literally is music to my ears. So there's my maybe inconsistent, unsure-sounding reasoning. What's yours? :disappointed:

I prefer Baby as a song but I prefer the Oops album. I actually can't really put into words why I prefer Baby but it just gives me that feeling. It gives me chills, like I don't know how to explain without sounding dumb and weird but it's just a bubblegum teen pop song yet it sounds so powerful. I really like Oops too though.

I know what you mean. As I wrote all that, I was like "what am I saying?!" haha

Oops can’t be better than Baby because it wouldn’t exist without it. It’s derivative.

Though I used to love Oops more. I’ve grown to appreciate Baby more now that I’m old.

Dont make me choose. :tiffanycries:

I know it's hard and I won't make you do anything you don't want to :tifftear: And ok, Oops wouldn't be around if it weren't for Baby but putting that aside and just thinking about the 2 songs separately, I feel Oops has more passion and depth to it. Silly as it sounds when she's talking about breaking someone's heart I know.

I recognize BOMT is better, like, being objective, but that's why I never compare BOMT to anything, because it will always be superior to any other of her songs, so to me BOMT is in its own category.

However, I just prefer OIDIA. Even though they have the same base (there's even that video that overlaps both songs and are the same) Oops is somehow more fun, more catchy, it's, awesome. It's really my favorite song ever, and the video too, it was just out of this world. :donewithit:

Like, I understand and won't get pissed if everybody else picks BOMT, because, I just get it, but to me Oops is so much better.

Oops is more creative and exciting than Baby, but Baby has all the passion. It’s such a simple almost stripped down song that I feel has more emotion.

I see where you're coming from. To be honest, I don't actually start to see the real passion in either song until near the end. In Baby, she sounds quite childish until the interlude, where she really starts to bare her soul/express her desires while in Oops, I agree that she could be more passionate as she sounds as though she doesn't care, which I guess fits the theme of the song, but then at the bridge, she revels in the heartbreak she's caused. I think you're right and I maybe confused that for passion whereas it's more to do with action and excitement.
