Britney's been a flop since the "Britney" album?

People continuously want to call her a flop and discredit her, but at the end of the day, Britney's entire career, as a whole, is one that will be remembered for years to come. She's fine. Yes, she can do better now, but that's on her... You guys act like this is how she will be remembered; if anything, most people will highlight her initial impact in pop music, her breakdown, and then her comeback (with a few probably mentioning her Vegas residency but will note it as a success since it was pretty innovative, considering the time it opened its doors and its impact in the Vegas shows business). People have already forgotten about X-Factor, Ooh LaLa, etc.. Only people on here bring those things up.

Celine started the young go to vegas thing.  She was like the same age as Britney when she started there.  The fanbase thinks other people think that because...we live in a bubble.  :imcute:

I don’t think we live in a bubble there’s literally a Forbes article about it

Not this 'the third album was a flop' argument thing.

There are things people need to take into account.

-It was her third album after two HUGE albums!

-She released three albums in a row!

-The radio ban really affected her sales.

-Her image change.

-She was a bit overexposed by late 2001.

-The critics and soundscan info from November and December of 2001 (2.92 million copies) didn't include sales from 2002 and after.

You cant credit Britney for vegas. Celine was the first artist who was still peaking who decided to do a residency. It was a huge gamble for her career. But she pulled it off. When Britney came, and had success, she proved that  a vegas residency was not for retiring singers

This is a major point. Slave should have been huge at the time but the ban prevented it.

They also did that to Janet after the Superbowl and she started flopping majorly even though the singles from Damita Jo were gearing up to be big, the media ban destroyed any chance of success.

The industry can be extremely cruel if you piss off the higher-ups.

Just because she wasn't as commercially successful doesn't mean that she didn't continue making an impact on pop culture. I just think it's stupid to say that she flopped after Britney when In The Zone gave us Toxic, one of the most iconic and well-known pop songs from the last decade :disappointed:

Celine was known as the queen of Vegas for years, that's for sure, but still people had the idea that a residency was for old artists. When Britney started her residency she was kind of a legacy-act already aswell, but the fact that she still has a pretty solid fanbase and can have some kind of impact on the charts when she releases music meant that Vegas could also be open for fresh acts. It's no coincidence that after Britney so many people like Mariah, Jlo, Gwen Stefani and Lady Gaga have moved there, she's the one that made having a Vegas residency "cool".

Poor Janet. Her last album did well, but could have sold more. Had she promoted it, I bet it would have sold 300,000 copies. She's a survivor.

But I also heard rumors she kind of was over her music career after All For You.
