Because it won The Queen a Grammy and it’s a very unique song. There’s been nothing that sounds or listens like it since. Toxic is a big moment unto itself for pop music. I’m glad it’s left it’s mark. Apart from BOMT, S4U or any of her other obvious hits, Toxic is generally the song that most people in the GP instantly think of when it comes to Britney.

It charted pretty average? It went to no 1 in 10 countries and went inside the top 10 in every single country it charted. Therefore its safe to assume its a really big hit worldwide. In the US it only peak at no. 9 simple because Jive did not released a physical single CD for sales in order to boost Album sales. Billboard Hot 100 charts are determine based on Airplay and Single Sales. She did received huge amount of Airplay with Toxic, but she has 0 sales for singles. Therefore there's no way the single would've gone to No.1 The same thing can be said for Oops I Did It Again, You Drive Me Crazy, Slave 4 U, Everytime, in which if Jive decided to released a single CD for sales, these songs would've easily be No. 1.
