What do you like about Glory? But also, what don't you like about Glory?

This thread made me realize...

Both Britney and Madonna have fallen into the trap of allowing the album producers to run the show instead of the artists setting the trends themselves.

Madonna redeemed herself with Rebel Heart, but William Orbit was right about MDNA. That album was rushed because of the Super Bowl and shooting the movie W, so the producers ended up running the show and the results were terrible. Madonna was already going down a bad path with Hard Candy, and then she really lost control with MDNA. I understand that her money is in selling concert tickets, but if the album itself isn't a reflection of her brand then the tour won't be as solid as it could be either. Luckily Madonna has a huge back catalogue to rely on, but the MDNA era really hurt her credibility in terms of remaining a relevant artist.

Britney has gone down the same path, and is all the worse for it. Circus was a true reflection of the Britney brand, but Femme Fatale is almost unlistenable to me now because it was so trendy. Songs that could have been timeless now sound quite dated. Luckily it has some huge bangers on it, so it will still hold up compared to the rest of her back catalogue. BJ then fell into the MDNA trap, where the producers ended up taking the reins because Britney and her Team were too focused on Vegas and ticket sales. And while Glory is a bit of a return to form, much like Rebel Heart was for Madonna, it's still too trendy to be on-brand for a Britney album. Britney herself clearly had to fight just to bring Karen Kwak into the mix, so good for her for doing that. But there was still way too much focus on Glory being on-trend, as opposed to it being on-brand. I'm not sure that Glory or BJ will hold up compared to the rest of Britney's catalogue.

MDNA was a record for the fans anyway, lol. Her last truly GP pandering record was Hard Candy. Everything else after was suited towards her fanbase. And the MDNA tour was ace. This opening number alone is better than most tours. :orangu:

I'm not criticizing the tour itself -- just the album. I did an internship with Moment Factory. Their work is stunning. I did get to see the Rebel Heart tour live, and it was a jaw dropper.

What I'm saying is that Madonna is lucky that she has such a strong back catalogue she can draw on. The same goes for Britney.

Imagine a tour wrapped just around Britney Jean and Glory? :frenchy:

Lol it’s actually my dream as a stan to see Britney embark on a limited date theater tour the way Kylie did performing only album tracks and B-Sides. Just to see that she can acknowledge the songs we love and nobody else appreciates. I would love an Unusual You performance ala Everytime / Shadow Onyx or Heaven On Earth similar to Baby DWAD with the rain.

I would love to see a theatre tour that featured songs like Til' It's Gone on an acoustic guitar...Chillin' With You, not so much. :selenerz:

What I love is the involvement Britney seemed to have since day 1. It feels like she was really into it and it doesn't feel forced as the last reference we had from Britney Jean.

What I hate is that is too monotonous to me. Every song is following the same path. There isn’t a "it" song we could say it's "the" song from the album, each Britney album have a gem, Baby, Oops, Slave, Toxic, Breathe on Me, Get Naked, Circus,  Unusual you, Inside out, etc. All of the Glory tracks seem to be just good to me, none of them are outstanding tracks. I do enjoy slow Britney tracks but an entire album filled with them? It's too much. Plus, she doesn't sing them live so there is no point in making this type of songs when she won't make them any justice on stage because she will obviously do a hardcore choreography to songs like SP, Make me or Just luv me simply because they do not require it, the same way she won't sing them live because well,  it's Britney ***** :sickofu: She finds it illegal somehow

I like how creative the album is, it's very consistent (as you said) and there's so many different styles of songs on the album. Britney's vocals in certain songs were great too

I don't really like Private Show, and What You Need is just okay as well.

Like:  Her vocals, it's the best she has sounded in a decade.  It's an album that sits well between Ariana Grande's Dangerous Woman and Selena Gomez's Revival but with her own twist and trademark sound.  I hated the title at first, and agree with "Private Show" being a better title/theme, but now find Glory fitting. It's Britney in her unapologetic sexpot-next-door glory.

Dislike:  What I love about the album is what I also dislike about it too:  I'm tired of Britney being the ultimate flirt.  Since her last album was so bad, I'm more than happy with this one, but I hope this is it.  This would be a nice way of closing this chapter and start singing something beyond her bedroom walls.  Not saying she can't have any **** songs, but I really want something more from her because I think she's capable of doing so.    There's previously unreleased material proving this already.

I can see why they go ****** because BO and ITZ are the fan favorites and they are her most ****** albums.

While all the other albums have other themes but are trashed by fans a lot.

So I can see how it would be confusing to her team if they see all the contradictions of what fans want.

Personally I think Circus had a great mix. Which is why it's my second fav but ppl say it's too safe but really *** songs are safe for Britney

I like many things about it. First of all, I like that even though there's like a common vibe, it actually shows a variety of sounds on each song, and that's what I like about a Britney album. She sounds great, and it has like a little bit for every kind of fan. Not too relevant, but I also love that there's a huge amount of tracks, even though most of them are bonuses. I also appreciate the little nods to her past songs, the "oops" in Clumsy, even if it's not the best tribute song for OIDIA. Coupure Électrique even though it doesn't have anything to do with the actual Blackout sound (thank God). The nod to Pretty Girls in Love Me Down :whitney:, etc.

What I don't like is that in most of the songs the choruses are basically absent. The bridges, the music breaks and sometimes even the verses are the real hooks of the songs instead of a strong chorus that one can sing all day. I might be very outdated or I don't know, but I'll always prefer the classic formula of verse-bridge-chorus / verse-bridge-chorus / breakdown / slightly modified chorus / chorus-chorus. A song that doesn't fit to that just simply sounds weird to me. I eventually get used to it, but it doesn't feel completely right lol

Yes, @PokemonSpears please go on:idkney:

lol ok, many will call it a reach, but in Love Me Down from around 2:10 to 2:30 that beat or sound or I don't know how to call it, in the background, sounds totally like the Pretty Girls beat. So in my mind she was paying tribute to her 2015 hit. Love it or hate it, but that's how Pretty World would've sounded like :chershade:
