I just saw this this morning so if AP, sorry :-)

also, it gets positive. They talk how she turned her life around, etc.

http://www.eonline.com/news/875416/how-far-britney-spears-has-come-10-years-after-her-disastrous-mtv-vmas-moment

Gimme More"? At the 2007 MTV VMAs, Britney Spears appeared to not give less of a damn.

In 2007, the pop star had a public meltdown. She shaved her own head at a Los Angeles salon, attacked a paparazzo's SUV with an umbrella and spent time in rehab.

That September, almost 10 years ago, Spears released a comeback single, "Gimme More." Wearing a black sequinned bikini, mid-calf boots and hair extensions, she performed the song for the first time at the 2007 MTV VMAs. It marked her first major performance in three years. The performer who became famous for her amazing VMAs performances, gave a lackluster, seemingly unenthusiastic one, complete with lip-syncing.

"She, like, really wanted to sing, but she just couldn't," a friend of Spears told E! News at the time. "She would have had to wear one of those headset things and they are so not cute."

"It was one bad thing after another," the friend added. "Brit was bummed out that she had to sing to track, and then her heel broke so she couldn't even dance so great."

Viewers and professional critics were far from impressed. The BBC's David Willis said her performance would "go down in the history books as being one of the worst to grace the MTV Awards."

Most of her fans stood by her. Chris Crocker became a viral sensation after he posted a video in which he tearfully defended Spears.

Spears experienced more personal turmoil after the botched VMAs performance. Months after the show, she was hospitalized on a 5150 psychiatric hold.

With the help of her family, she has since recovered and has concentrated on her health, loved ones and music.

And while it will likely always be associated with the VMAs performance, "Gimme More" was certified platinum.

So was the album it appears on, Blackout—in 2012, five years after its release.

So was her 2009 album Circus. And her 2011 album Femme Fatale.

Her 2013 album, Britney Jean, did not do as well domestically. Neither did her latest album, Glory, which was released in 2016.

In 2012, the singer made her big TV comeback as a co-judge on Fox's The X Factor. She was featured on the show for just one season, but she did delight fans by debuting a seemingly happier Britney Spears following all those past years of public turmoil. Also, she inspired viral GIFs. Many GIFs.

Over the past few years, Spears has continued to tour the world. She also returned to the VMAs after her 2007 blunder, appearing at the annual show in 2008, 2009, 2011—where she received the prestigious Vanguard Award, 2015, and 2016, when she finally performed.

But Spears' biggest comeback came in the form of her Las Vegas residency show, Britney: Piece of Me. The show began in December 2013 at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino and continued running on and off to this day.

There's also this:

Looking back this, I find it very irritating how much people bashed her back then. Most celebs these days get a free pass and get forgiven for their mistakes. Hell, they'd even get bashed if they make fun of celebs. People really threw her under the bus and I don't understand why people hated her so much. Like yeah she ****** up but seriously! I really believe most magazines nowadays are overcompensating by writing positive headlines because they're trying to make up for how shitty they've been to Britney back then.

I think a lot of it is because it's a different time. Ppl talk more about societal pressures, paparazzi stalking, mental health, etc. now. But back then it was super taboo and u were just made fun of. Even Kanye who was also placed under a 5150 and cancelled shows on his fans, has yelled at his fans, gone on rants, etc got more love than britney did. And she was clearly suffering. So it's just sad that the times weren't what they are now

Oh, definitely. But u know, Britney is one of the nicest celebrities and she's always been an easy target because of her sweetness. It bothers me that people had no regard for her feelings back then. It seems like she got the short end of the stick because was sweet.

Man, she got bashed a lot that year. Look at these

This is the worst. **** Silverman, seriously, **** this *****!

Can't stand Sarah Silverman to this day because of that, also not to mention she is painfully unfunny. The media were horrible to her and the amount of celebs jumping on, so gross. Then I see Taylor whinging in her new song and her fans trying to say how badly she has been treated, if these stars today got half the s--t Britney had in her career I wonder how they would deal.

I think the most bothersome aspect is that none of these people from celebrities to the media have apologized or shown any remorse for their treatment of Britney. They will vehemently defend current stars while bashing or mocking Britney. That just shows the lack of character and disingenuous nature of their current positive comments. They say those things to look good but none of them care.

I'm so bored of her breakdown, I wish the media would stop making articles and stuff about it because literally no one cares. No one will open the notification on their phone and no one will watch the video's when E! talk about it. Just stop already. It happened, move on :outwithit::nocomprende:

Agree, I can't take someone seriously as a feminist if they use Britney as their punching bag. They do it because they can get away with it, Britney is the 'type' of girl who it's ok to mock to them - a 'bimbo' and someone who embraced her sexuality and used it in her career, so for some women it's ok to trash her. Such crap. Chelsea Handler, Sarah Silverman, Katy Perry (and I'm sure there's more I can't think of) all claim to be feminists but all mocked Britney's breakdown, I'm not saying to be a feminist means you never criticise another woman or have to get along with all women but specifically targeting someone like Britney for a cheap joke simply because you can is what a garbage person does and it's the opposite of feminism in my opinion. Another celebrity that comes to mind is James Cordon, I remember he tweeted that people should stop making fun of Kim K being robbed because she's a mother, a sister, a daughter etc. - yet he didn't care about those things when Britney had her breakdown and cruelly referred to her as 'still a bit mental' on her comeback, disgraceful.

I hate this video so so so much, I want to visit these people and be like :whitney:

Those were really sad times... I am so glad she is a trooper and proved everybody wrong :crying1:

It's interesting to read that they say that she wanted to sing along but couldn't... like Jive forbid her, or what?
