Yes, you're right. Britney's massive album sales mattered more than her mediocre singles-chart figures. But it goes to show how *narrow* her fanbase was. It was very, very big -- and very narrow. It takes more than the teen-pop demographic to send a song to the top of the charts, even if they buy albums by the sackful

That's also due to the lack of physical singles JIVE / Zomba released. People bought the album because that's what they needed to in order to listen to the music.
