I don't understand how Work ***** is so well-known

The entire BJ era pretty much flopped, yet Work ***** has 250,000,000 views on YouTube and seems to be pretty well known by the GP. It didn't even chart that well or that long. Britney did more promo for Make Me and Glory. Make Me fit in very well with what was popular on the radio when it was released. It featured G-Eazy who's very current and "in" right now. And yet, Make Me only has 50,000,000 views, charted much worse, and doesn't seem to be known by anyone.

I just don't understand. Theoretically, Make Me should've done as good as WB or better, and yet it did much worse. I just don't understand what made Work ***** so well known when BJ was technically a worse era and had less promo. I don't get it :ponderney: Can anyone else explain it?

Work ***** was the first single after the Femme Fatale era and Scream & Shout (if you don't count Ooh La La, which actually performed decently on radio).

The video premiered on TV, Snooki performed it on Dancing With The Stars AND on Ellen and it was on South Park and New Girl, 4 of the most popular television shows currently airing. Britney also did a lot of press that featured the song even though it wasn't performed and the video was received very very well and has great replay and club value.

Plus Work ***** is way more "Britney" than Make Me, thus having more staying power. I mean even to this day Ellen made "work *****" jokes in the mall skit. It's the same iconic synonymous effect as "oops!" when talking about Britney.

Make Me is boring and, like you pointed out, "in" and forgettable.

To compare it with Make Me, Work ***** has better video, it's both more uptempo and more anthemic which is more "Britney". The term "work btch" itself is catchier and easier to remember

Make Me is a great song (better than Work Btch imo) but it's unlike other Britney's first singles - which is always uptempo and anthemic. It didn't do as great because the lack of radio support and that stupid video :sassybrit:

There was a lot of buzz prior and during the release of Work *****.  Everyone was hyped about it because she was working with Will.I.Am and that that the title of the song had "*****" in it. Everyone wanted to know how it really sounded like.

It was a typical Britney song. Very uptempo and back then EDM was still pretty big and current.

Personally I think it's a decent song but the music video is really well produced despite the "more provocative" parts being cut out.

Make Me on the other hand is so different from what Britney has done and I think due to the fact that BJ didn't do so well - many didn't really check up on Britney after the era.

Make Me is so underrated tbh. The song is FAR from being boring :byebitch:. I think it's really timeless and I'm still not tired of the song tbh. It sounds SO SO good.  I feel like it was sabotaged by the scrapped MV. Imagine having a great 1st single with a great MV - that would have at least helped a little bit tbh.

Despite not having the commercial success that it deserves, MM is definitely one of Britney's best singles to date.  :verycool:

I totally agree with this, fans seem to ignore WB mostly because it's a BJ song when in fact it's the last widely known Britney song. But I don't agree with MM. It is anything but boring, it's amazing and different. But I respect your opinion, just wanted to state mine :)
